My own feeling is that trickle economics is a great jump start to boosting any economy but like all remedies, it has its place but cannot be the only part of the jigsaw. I'm from Ramsgate and you can't get any more south east than that (without getting wet and speaking French). Have they ever been there? Nah. Nor would they want to stay there for very long if they ever did. It's been starved of investment since before the '70s. It's dead. Crumbling even. A fucking employment wasteland. I had to leave as far back as 1970 to get a job. It's what you do to get on, instead if just mingeing on about how awfully unfair it all is. There was/is NOTHING down there. I'm pissed off hearing people who expect the employment opportunities to be delivered conveniently to their doorstep, moaning on and on and on about how priviledged I was. FFS..if the south east is such a Shangrila, why aren't they all down there?
The goldmine is located in London. Is it any wonder people flock here and live in home counties and thus investment gets focused here where the greatest returns are likely. It's London that is the funnel for the UK money and not the South East. That money does spread from the centre to an extent though as the workers in London migrate further from the capital to live. Parts of the south east are some of the most deprived and run down i have seen in the UK.
And yet I haven't seen Bob Geldof organising a concert in Nairobi, Kenya and calling it "U.K. Aid" to help the poor people of the U.K.

Some parts of the south east are the wealthiest bearing in mind the capital is there, in the same way Edinburgh will be more wealthier than say govern hill. This is not unusual world wide for capitals to be wealthier. I would issue a challenge that if you were to look up the 20 poorest regions within the U.K., most will be in England
