British Indy: What Happens Now?

Discussion in 'Wasteland' started by Loz, May 23, 2015.

?
  1. Full Brexit with "no EU deal" on the 29th March.

  2. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a general election and new negotiations.

  3. Request Extension to article 50 to allow cross party talks and a new deal to be put to EU.

  4. Request Extension to article 50 to allow a second referendum on 1. Remain in EU or 2. Full Brexit.

  5. Table a motion in parliament to Remain in EU WITHOUT a referendum.

  6. I don't know or I don't care anymore

Results are only viewable after voting.
  1. Sorry, I have another question.

Why is leaving the EU a bad thing for the younger generations ?

  2. It isn't.

Adults told them it was a bad thing and promised sweets if we stay. Youngsters are hard-wired to believe adults who promise them sweets.

  3. Because taking gap years paid by their parents will mean they will actually have to organise stuff rather than just leave ;)

Here’s a thought. Of the millions of 18-25yr olds, how many actually go abroad to work? Isn’t being in the Eu just a another way of supporting the rich and privileged?

  4. That’s what I was wondering

  5. All I know, is I go to cities in Spain and France and Germany and barely find a Brit working in the bars etc. But I find lots of other Europeans working in those bars. Same with London or Manchester or Birmingham.

Could be language? In which case, that won’t change, so freedom of movement for work won’t stop 99% of the yoof

What’s next....jobs? Shall we have a go at jobs? Surely most young people are unemployed because of lack of low paid, low skilled work or the benefit system makes it worthwhile not to work. I don’t think the second is a fact. So is there something else going on? There are as many vacancies as unemployed right now, so what’s happening?

  6. This is the thing with folks who want children to be allowed to vote.

They are usually the same folks who are promising unicorns and candy floss, all of which appeals to immature minds.

They are not the folks who tell youngsters the harsh facts and hard truths and who explain how things need to be worked for, not simply given.

  7. The young of today can’t handle the truth. Or disappointment. Or a sense of unfairness.

  8. I don’t think encouraging youngsters to stay in education longer has helped.

Will it be harder to travel / work in the EU, when (if) we leave ?

  9. It will be impossible.

The channel tunnel is being filled in, ferry ports closed and aircraft permanently grounded.

And I believe the EU is preparing to enact a shoot-to-kill policy on English speaking individuals found in continental Europe.

It's a small price to pay though, for our beloved blue passports (which we won't be able to use).

  10. Won’t happen. Westminster pumps billions into NI each year, the Republic couldn’t afford it so Westminster would have to pay another ‘divorce’ bill of 10s if billion to Dublin. Also there are too many Unionists who would cause ructions.

  14. No, I do take it seriously.

If it weren't for the fact that Qatar is in the EU, I would never have gotten the opportunity to work there a few years ago.

    I believe in the EU.

  15. We have to give the EU billions to get out yet you say we would also have to give billions to Ireland for them to get out of the UK and be United, something just doesn't seem fair.

  16. Not fair?

    Welcome to globalism, my friend.

  17. England is a cash cow. Simple as that.

  18. I had to look that up to check.

  19. Paul, the Scots have the indi referendum written into their devolved government agreement, do you know if the Northern Irish have?

  20. If only that was true. Got two uni leavers in the family, both with good degrees. Plus my daughter who has started uni and wants part time work, daughters boyfriend who is a qualified electrician. All have had jobs, but struggle even to get an interview.
It may depend what part of the country, but struggling to get interviews for places like Aldi, let alone something that their degree would be good for! (one Psychology, one Biomed science..) Electrician is doing physics at uni...brainy. But he had the mis fortune of companies going bust and then only being able to get work part time...again no contract...hence higher education. Physics degree plus electrician, he will get a job no problem afterwards.

North East, there are defo problems getting full time work, and the pay tends to be less than other parts of the country.
A lot of jobs that are advertised, and I know this from past experience=not a real job. Companies take on X number self employed sales staff, basically digging for the next great sales person. Take on ten, reduce to five, reduce to two that sell. Repeat.
..to elaborate, sales jobs that are Self employed, you might get some leads given. Sink or swim. If it works (have done two in the last ten years, so I do know) it is a stop gap to a real job. You need to be making mega bucks to pay for own car+costs, commercial insurance etc. and to cover when leads dry up, holidays etc. BTW, I was converting sales but was unable to maintain sales hours in the long term due to my wife having cancer. One job had a 1 hour turn around for going out on a call. Which might be 1 hour from house. Basically stand by 6 days a week waiting for the phone..
Then there are jobs where companies are just fishing. The job where the company needs a manager, subject to the contract be awarded..I know again, was offered employment 4 month after an interview. Also jobs that literally are withdrawn. Employers realise they can manage, probably by making people work harder. Witnessed this with a company I was involved with last year. Piss take really when people get right up to the goal line and the ref blows the full time whistle.
This is not being negative. Its fact based on what I have experienced.
