  1. No overhead lines to my knowledge. Most of the time the service is reliably slow at about 2-4 Mb.

SHMBO believes BT do it deliberately to encourage people to upgrade !

  2. very interesting, the wire to my house comes right through a tree in my garden i have meaning to chop back for a few years now.

  3. With Infinity it is presumably using a different technology and the slowest point of the old system is no longer the limiting factor ??

If there is a 'weak point' in the existing copper wire will this be put under greater stress with the new system ??

  4. There are many factors that affect the speed you get, line length, wether you have any aluminium cable in the route, the conductor size ( Usually 0.5m cable but 0.4, 0.6 and even 0.9 are not unknown) how well the joints have been constructed, trees, rats in cable chambers gnawing on the cable allowing water in.
To the best of my knowledge there is no conspiracy to slow your speeds down to get you to pay more, but the more people use the equipment the slower it is, the same will probably happen when everyone is on fibre and then the complaints will start again!
