FYI, I don't think anyone will be trying to finger point or lay blame, etc. Just that we would all hate for this to happen to us so anything you can pass on would be great.
First of all I'm really sorry for your break down. I would be interested in what the garage (who replaced the belts last time) has to say. Ask them, humbly, for a contribution/payment for the repairs. I assume that the garage, who's doing the work now, isn't the same garage who changed the belts? Fit for purpose comes into mind... and sale of goods act... Ford guarantee their belts for Life! (when fitted by Main Dealer) as long as you change them at or before the life date/mileage spec. Then again it could be an idler bearing that collapsed causing the failure... Oh dear.... Good luck
Fords guarantee their belts for life , doesn't quite make sense that , sounds more like they guarantee them till the service mileage interval or time base interval . Before you get any work done on the bike you need to inform the garage who originally did the belts , they need to be made aware of what's happened and given reasonable chance to take action , repair it or have it inspected . For all we know a cam could of seized , something internal could of failed which has locked the cams and stripped the belt . Bad luck all the same , hope you get it back on the road asap
I had an exhaust cam seize on the Vertical cylinder. It was the bearing on the pulley side. It stripped the belt which had been newly fitted. Apart from the mess inside the belt cover of melted and shredded belt there was no other damage. The bearing was locked solid but I worked at it and suddenly it freed. Never found what jammed it. (Was on the bench when I freed it)
Yes i seen what you put , its the wording , to me guarantee for life implies that the belt would last the vehicles life time .....maybe i am misunderstanding this , if you guaratee the belt for lifetime but have to change the belts at the recommended interval you are not guarateeing the same belt , i maybe missing something here , apologies if thats the case
Not to worry Lee. I could have put it over differently. I was referring to a mates Ford Mondeo who's belt snapped many years ago. He was on his 2nd belt when it snapped after 30,000. He was glad when he spoke to his Ford dealer,( who replaced the 1st belt) they stated 'No Charge' due to this 'Lifetime warranty' His words not mine....
