I had my 999 serviced by Roy earlier in the year. I've tried to ring them myself but the number isn't recognised. I hope they haven't gone down the pan. Ill drive by next time in near Bury.

Heads Off ?? the stripdown continues slow but steady. She has been standing in a damp garage for three years, all fasteners are well rusty and furred up. Now - I have squirted some oil down the bores, but is that enough to prevent disaster on startup ? Should I whip the heads off to have a better look and lub the rings, and to ensure that all is free before I try and fire her up ??
Hi guys, The strip down continues. Managed to strip one if the triple clamp bolts but will get round to removing it in the new year. Have now decided on a trail tech dash & have a laser pro duro end can waiting for a link pipe to be made. I only wish my garage was bigger, dryer, warmer and had power.
Hi Matt, glad you are making progress, sometimes though it is one step forward and two backward ! I am now painting the alt and clutch covers, then the coating to strip on the fork lowers. Nitromors will not shift the paint, but a pal tells me that Wilkinson do a stronger version - will keep you posted. We are into fitting a set of floats, and then its rebuild time ! You are doing well with such limited facilities, esp this time if year All the best - we must meet up when we got on the road
hopefully you are an inspiration to each other - my E750 needs both crankcase sides off before I know what's wrong so might tackle this just before new year if it's not raining. Would really cheer me up if my problem was only 'loose nuts'
Elefant Rebuild Starts Hi Guy 'n Gals, we have turned the corner and the rebuild has started, albeit slowly. Clutch and Alt cover sprayed up with silver Hammerite smooth, look fine, belts tenioned and covers back on. These I have sprayed Hamm smooth Green, - dont ask me why, seemed like a good idea, and it is my bike !! Rear brake master renewed, all bled through. Fork lowers to strip of paint tommorow; I have bought a tin of the real macoy stripper, it has got more health warnings than a night out with my sister, so it must ge good ! Next I will fit the carbs, and am wondering wether to go for a pair of K&N cones, rather than the monster sized air box - any comments ?? Happy New Year - with lots of safe miles to All, cheers dp
I was having the same dilemma but am going o stick with the airbox. Thinking being that the airbox will maybe give the induced air a bit of time to warm up thus reducing carb icing? Might be clutching at straws but seemed to make sense? Yours is looking good. I have today decided to strip the engine out and have the frame blasted & powder coated. It is realy too tatty to patch paint.
Ah - why has the photo got that sort of warm dry look about it _ ah yes I remember, sunshine and summertime ! Yours is the Lucky Strike Chris ?
no, I wish Dave :0 mine is the little orange number.. I shouldn't knock it as by the time I finished with it it was very reliable. The Explorer is that of 'Mahout' who is registered on this Forum but visits rarely and the meeting place is Boxhill Surrey/July 2011 - it's a low mileage 750 in very good condition. I turned down a 900 just over a week ago - it was a cracker and just the sort I like needing a little bit of work but i really must sell some before taking on more. I've enjoyed reading about both you and Matt's refurbishing - look forward to seeing them both running next year
I had a target if April but have my doubts. Carbs coming off over next couple of days when my buddy comes to stay and am in two minds re engine out. Rear shock being sent of after the new year festivities for service, spring & new remote hose. Think ill buy some new handguards & bars so I feel like there's some progress. It all looks a sorry state if affairs just now. I like your bike Chris, the Ele that thinks its a KTM? Like the HB boxes too.
exactly right Matt - right down to the panniers! - owner 2 removed did a 'restoration' the best bit being the painting.
Been Busy Best Wishes for the New Year Guys n Gals, I have started off as I mean to go on, been busy in the garage !! Got the fork legs stripped and buffed up, look OK and I will keep them bare, polished ally looks good, and spraying up a cylindrical shape would be tricky. Got the front wheel back in and- oh bums - the disc looks a bit ropey. Anyroad, and thank goodness for impact wrenches, both wheels are now disc-less. Still, no rush, and will let you know where I get discs and new bolts from - cheers dp
Good work Dave, I am going to do the same with my front end. Are you replacing the rubber boot hoses? I'm going for the acerbis neoprene type. I don't suppose you know what size hex the swing arm engine bolt is? I'm almost ready for the engine to come out. Carbs off today and ready to be sent off for servicing. There's a local firm to me that renovates old JSP bikes. Going to pop in and see what they can do.
Hi Matt, my front brake line is braided, only the rear brake hose is rubber. I will have a look at the swing arm bolt tonight, cheers dp
My hoses are braided too, I have just had the clutch hose rebuilt by Venhill. Cost about £30. I meant the protective rubber boots that surround the fork stanchion. If you are going to re
