I'll pop one on later - had to do the discus ( snail infetation ) , and now a bottle of Tesco's finest calls ! For once I engaged brain; the bike only needs a pump when the fuel level is below the carbs !! Filled her right up, direct pipe tank to carbs, and back in business !! The cause of the poor running was a shorted out plug, some crud had bridged the electrode !!
MOT'd at last ! Another cracking day to make up for the bodge yesturday; she sailed through the MOT !! The Heflump rides well, not that you can do much on damp slippery roads !! I have bought a Mikuni pump, (ER500) for 12 squids from ebay, it should do the job if not an exact replica. There is aslo a guy there who looks like he has broken a 750/900 so I have enquired there too. The bike dows seem undergeared, ( low speed high revs) so might juggle with sprocket sizes to bring the revs down a tad. Anyway here she is in all here glory, bit of a messy snap with the ford in the background, but you get the idea.
well done Dave - looks great in blue. They do seem under geared as standard and a sixth speed (like the 900) would have made it ideal. I know people have geared them up but I prefer the acceleration and anything on long journeys at over a ton isn't much fun on these, for me anyway. Depending on your suspension set up be prepared for a little front wheel 'shake' at times (when near flat out) -you can balance the front wheel all you like but it can still happen. Have fun!
this one now up to a grand :- Cagiva Elefant 900 Lucky Explorer | eBay definitely an upward trend for these at the mo - a 'winter' price and broken stud to repair. EDIT - ^^^^ it went for 1.6k !!!
Not much movement on mine of late. Have been toying with the idea of a GS Adventure. But thats another topic entirely. Love the look of yours Dave. Youve done a great job to turn that around. I have the same end can to go on mine. I dont suppose you could put a video of that up? Today i have dropped my rear shock off at M H Racing for service, spring etc. I have decided to have the remote adjuster removed to save a litle cash and to be honest, i have no real need for such quick adjustment.
Item number: 111016910306 Take a look at this one on the Bay of E - should not be a difficult fix, and buy it now is reaonable ?? I will try and take a video of mine running tomorrow. £1.6K for a dodgy engined bike _ blimey - some folk !! I had a 1200, 2007, did 50k miles in 3 years - absolutely fabulaous machines IMHO !! Rainbow Rotherham is the place to go.

Ciggy lighter on a bike _ I like his style !! Mine is getting a good few miles in ( not in snow obv !) and all running lovely. Very nice bike Chris, and I`m hoping the crutches are a thing of the past ! How are you getting on Matt ??
Thank you Dave, I decided I deserved one that didn't need major work for a change. It has sat for 8 years but has had meticulous owners and so is almost timewarp. I just got a new Yuasa for it then it needs clutch plates and carbs cleaned and that's it. I'm glad you have taken to yours so well - it's Matt that needs all the encouragement now
I've made quite a bit of headway with the strip down but am working all over the place at the minute. Weather not exactly helping either. Engine is set to come out with only the swing arm bolt retaining the engine in the frame. I need a 12mm hex to crack the pin out. Haven't collected the shock yet, but it is ready to go. So pick that up, have the frame powder coated, paint engine in POR15 high temp paint and ill be ready to start the rebuild. I'm planning on making a dash unit to hold the trailtech unit I have and some LED warning lights. But I can probably do that during the week at my work house. Thinking of wrapping the original dash (with huge great big holes in it) with carbon/Kevlar sheeting. I have a pic of what I'm aiming to do that ill post up during the week.
Nice work Matt, look forward to seeing piccies and maybe in the flesh. Maybe we could all meet up in the middle of the Surrey/Selby/Halifax (?) triangle when ( if ) the weather improves !!
Well had a pretty miserable afternoon in the garage today. The engine is out and ready to go to the painters. Still a bolt stuck on the front engine brace/frame with no intention of budging. Also noticed a huge bite out of the aluminium cylinder at the front exhaust mount. Luckily not the studs but enough to mean a new cylinder I guess. I hadn't banked on an engine strip but think I am now going to have to bite the bullet. I'm up for a meet in the warmer months but would probably end up on the 999 unless I sell it. Thinking of selling/chopping it in for a BMW F800GS.
I'm with you on the f800. I love the dark beast but just like my Hyper, there's too much riding to be done and not enough dry, fine sunny days.
Sorry to hear the news Matt, you were coming on pretty well :-( Pop a photo up for us to have a butchers when you have a mo ! regards dp
you have done well to persevere this far.. I have two more if you decide to go further as i'm not sure when I will find the time now. I quite understand you being tempted by plan 'B'. Don' forget that above damage is on head ans so can be fairly easily removed for building up with weld.
