  1. Hi Guys, Anakee 2 ( 140/80/17) anyone ?? Its only done 550 mile, but it doesnt suit me, I am having a more road orientated tire fitted. Would suit a more light off-roady type I think. Cost £110, so around £35 plus postage ??

  2. not for me Thanks Dave - fully booted at the mo.

  3. Test rode the triumph 800 xc tiger last weekend, wow, far better than the bmw. Just my opinion of course.

  4. Well - now got a few miles on the new rear tyre, a Conti Trail Attack - and it feels better than the Anakee, but not brilliant. I have at last figured out what the problem is _ the bike is not a BMW R1200 GS !! I did 50K mile on one in three years, now that is some machine - from Cadwell to the Pyrenees - they do it all. I wonder if Rainbow will take the Effalump in part ex ?? !!

  5. Well ive had a busy week or two and am sort of no longer a Ducatisti (except for the pantah engine sat on the bench).

I could bear having a one trick pony no more and have took the plunge deep into BMW.

Traded 999 in for a 2006 R1200GS Adventure. All the boxes, the lot and well, why didnt i do it earlier? Ive long been a believer that if you can walk away without looking back then you brought the wrong bike. I was wrong! If you CAN walk away is the point, not the looking back.

The GS is fantasitc. I was woried it would be too tall for my 30inch legs but other than wheeling it around with a full tank its not that bad and when its on the fly, wow, i trully cant believe how easy it is to make progress.

The 300mile range is a nice bonus too.

  6. Cant fault you Matt - nice one !! I will get another Big Beemer soon, but will alway keep the carby 900SS. I will have to lose the CBR 1000F soon as well, I love the engine, but it is not a good fit for my bod, I find the 900 SS more comnfy !! I tried a 1200 MTS for a while - but that did not suit me either !!

  7. I see biking as a career, did have a little moment as i was riding through to swap and it was a warm sunny saturday with no traffic & the 999 was sounding beautiful. Parked it up in the sun, not looking old, nor out of place next to newer Ducatis but other than that short nostalgic moment i dont miss it.

Irealy cant believe how good the GS on british roads.

Anyhow, enough of that, before i get burned as a heretic.

Ele project is still on the go, albiet a little slower and contemplating finding a different fram like an alzura or ss and maybe make something more road biased?

  8. The UKGSER website is full of good stuff, keep the name Fat Matt, and see you there when I get my Beemer !!

My 1996 Elefant 750 has to go, great condition, very shiney alloy rims, new belts, front and rear discs and pads, new rear brake master cylinder, very recent rear tyre, with a spare Anakke, long MOT and tax, priced to sell ( need a big GS !) at £950 email me at davedotperryatrwenpower.com, home laptop has crashed ! ( also cant get onto Classifides at work !)

Also Honda CBR 1000F, 1997, 47K, great condition loads of work done, awesome bit of kit, ££1350

  13. At least you are honest Dave :) - main worry for owners is the scarcity of bodywork etc whereas B.M. probably plentiful.
I would add the mileage and drag some pictures in/repeat post in For Sale leaving a link on this thread (you know what Matt is like ) Good Luck with sale - sorry it wasn't your cup of T.

  14. Not on your own Chris, just enjoying the honeymoon with the GS.

I still intend to soldier on with the Ele although my plan of attack might be a bit different now. May consider a more rustic rebuild for off road rallying.

Practice off road on the ele before taking the GS off road propper.

Some realy nice looking Eles on ebay. Wish i had the cash to buy one or two. Someone recommisioning a 900 marathon for someone else on the GS website but i think the forks are shot. A shame as it has huge potential.

  15. I really enjoyed bringing the Ele back on the road, now owned by a lovely guy who is going to take it down to the south of France where he can ride it around until its time to go for a sail on his yatch !! He is going to buy the big Honda as well !! Chris mate - don't have a ride on one of the big Beemers, you will be a covert for sure !! |Keep in touch Matt and Chris regards dave p

  16. All the Best Dave - have tried one or two earlier models but still prefer Elefant for it's narrow profile (relatively) and 'plantability' on cornering - each to their own as ever.
