Wow - your running a raspberry pi on your bike! - you running a media centre build then? - that's pretty hardcore...must be a good rider if you can use a computer and ride at the same time! a new bar has been set!
Theyre good but I always found XBMC a little sluggish but that was an old one....I was thinking of getting one of the new ones and having another play....sorry going off topic now...if theres a battery inside then I think its a no brainer....for 12 quid you cant complain - the next is.....wheres the cheapest deal on a data sim...?
That was fixed many updates ago. XBMC is now called Kodi and looks super slick. Running it on the new Pi's too. Saw an ad for a talk talk EVERYTHING included Sim yesterday. Think it was in the paper. Might be worth a look but check coverage too.
Well, I just bought one....thought it was worth the punt....ill throw pics and stuff when I get it...
Twice as much but has built in battery GPS GPRS GSM Motorcycle Tracker Monitor SMS Alarm System Waterproof | eBay
I thought about these, but many GPS devices report real-time tracking, which uses a wireless carrier to communicate this information to the person doing the tracking. A mobile phone jammer can be used to block the signal being transmitted to the wireless carrier preventing status updates being sent or simply spoof it by sending a fake radio signal that overrides the signal being transmitted by the GPS device and reports a fake location. So you don't even need to tamper with any wiring or locate the actual GPS cell. But, in saying that, its better than nothing, guessing it won't alter the insurance quote though.
You are not wrong there. Insurance will discount for one piece of security, so if you have a lock, or a ground anchor, or a tracker (and that is a Thatcham graded one fitted by an approved place, not one of these) it makes no odds the discount is the exact same. They discount for a single piece of security and seemed to be the case for every insurer I have queried the fitting of one with.
Although it looks like an incredible bit of kit for the money unless it has standalone power supply it's not a lot of good for me. Very first thing a thief will do is disconnect battery
Well, ive just ordered another roadlok for my Zed along with the tracker thingy so I reckon thatll be enough....I know its never enough but, enough, for me....
Back in 2001 my insurance company told me that they wouldnt insure me on a £1500 old fireblade as it was too high a risk. However they happily said they would insure me on a £6000 2 year old Yamaha R1 for £150 or something stupid. Amazing really. But it was because statistically more blades had been nicked/crashed (at that time) than R1`s. So needless to say I ran straight out & bought an R1.
