Car Dealers

Discussion in 'Lounge' started by Char, May 14, 2013.

  1. +1 on the beemer..i was looking at buying one a cpl of years ago until i hung around on the 'cutters' website....constant pics of failed vanos gear smashing holes through the crankcase..not good. shame because i still think its the most handsome car theyve made.

  2. I used to run Citroën CXs for several years in 70s-80s. I loved them. Fabulous cars, superb power steering, massive load-carrying capacity, elegant styling, luxurious seating, simple engine, mad dashboard, rubbish build quality, modest performance. We could fit two Ducati Pantahs inside a CX Safari estate. Always wished I had a DS but never did. The launch of the DS at the Paris salon 1955 must have been absolutely sensational, like a spaceship landing amid the stodgy, blocky cars of the period. And a DS still looks futuristic, 58 years later.

  3. Like your style. I even take longer ferry trips to Europe just to land anywhere but on French soil. They treat us with disdain and rip us off at every opportunity so I do everything in my power not to give them a single one of my hard earned Euros.

And as for their cars, they are designed to go catastrophically wrong on the day after the warranty runs out.!!

    Bonnet de douche!!

  4. But at least the Nissans are designed and built in England.

  5. No it doesn't.

  6. According to the Telegraph today only 240 Allegros left our off 460k built !

  7. Well I've just had terrible service from a big Dealer ordered a brand new A4 , cant belive what a trauma its been ! They were very good at knowing the car and taking the deposit and there it ended, sadly the salesman who sold it to me has now lost the sale to a colleague just because he couldnt be bothered to reply to my phone calls hopefully he will learn from this lack of 21st century service .

  9. Yes, it does, or more specifically its the largest shareholder in the alliance, but to all intents and purposes Nissan is under the control of Renault with shared platforms and funded by renaults rci banque.

  10. I've worked for Nissan for 21 years.

No, Renault does not own Nissan. The two comapnies have an alliance. Renault owns 43% of Nissan shares, Nissan owns 15% of Renault shares. Both companies also have shares in Daimler and vice versa.

The alliance has always stated that one company will never become the majority share holder in the other. The alliance is all about sharing synergies, technologies, research, components, buying power, manufacturing facilities, logistics etc. This is very different from "Renault owns Nissan".

I've seen presentations, videos, briefings and been part of more meetings than I care to remember on this subject since the alliance was formed in 1999.

  11. Thats true, but the 15% owned by Nissan has no voting rights, whereas renault is the controlling shareholder of Nissan, this is largely irrelevant as my point was that if you decide not to buy French, it's not as easy as avoiding renault/Citroen. I worked for Nissan for a few years and have been with renault for the last 10, so I do appreciate your point.

  12. Test drove the pug - goes well for 68 bhp 4 up :-D

  13. Point taken.

It's crazy that people think they can buy something as complex as a car and think that all 4000 components were made in the same country as the vehicle was assembled or where the head office is based. Once you get down to 3rd tier suppliers, some of there components come from places you'd never find on a map.

As well you know then. Mr Ghosn makes the descisions, for both companies !

  15. No wonder the French have a funny attitude towards us.the only car worse than an allegro is possibly the trabant. We had an allegro and it was shit,we also had a Jensen interceptor ,that was shit too,in fact I remember it broke down on the way back from the garage when we collected it brand new,it was pissing with rain, maybe in some strange way that kindled my interest in things that don't like the rain, like my bike, and my wife?LOL.
