Carl Fogarty

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Symon Moore, Jan 26, 2021.

  1. Absolutely.

sometimes to be the best, especially in such a difficult environment you end up being a plonker. It’s like a suit of armour.

doesn’t make it right Ofcourse. But to be the best you do have to think/know you’re the best. I’ve never met a racer without an ego.

  2. I’m not sure about that! Take Marquez, he’s achieved more than Fogarty could even dream of but from whave seen he seems like a lovely young chap! Ruthless yes, as you have to be in racing but still a credit to his ma and pa!

  4. You alright hun or bad day at the office.

Hmm quite a lot of rant in there for something said in passing chip on shoulder much do you? Having never met Foggy or Chili neither are cool. They were there to entertain nothing more for me which they did in bucket loads. Fogarty like many before and after were/are the best on the best with the best that’s sport for you particularly motorsport.

As for Boxhill never been never will, I suggest you avoid such places seems it’s not your kind of place.

  5. I met him at the bike show in 18,he was on the CCM stand. I’ve never wanted a photo with a famous person but Foggy was the exception. Top bloke, had the photo with me even tho he was “bursting for a piss”

Didn’t realise he was a bit shorter than me!

  6. He has mellowed over the years.

Towards the end of his racing career I managed to blag some pit lane passes for WSB at Donnington. Was there with two mates and one of them managed to bump into him and basically got told to F-off in no uncertain terms.

Fast forward 15'ish years at a Ducati Track Day at Silverstone and he appears in front of me on the circuit. I followed him for about half a lap before he pulled in (he was clearing just pottering round). Literally screaming in my helmet, a magic memory. Shared a coffee with him in the canteen later and he couldn't have been nicer; discussing the differences between his old race bikes and the modern Ducati's.

  7. I was there too! Factory 888, beautiful.
    Didn’t Fallappa win both races?

  8. I’ve met him a few times. Genuinely nice guy.

I’m even booked on a ‘trials experience course’ with him as he’s going with a good friend of mine, in the summer. That’s if we are allowed by then of course.

  9. I think the testimonies from his career that he was an obnoxious tw@t and from more recently that he's a likeable guy are both true. I've more than once heard him reflecting that he was an obnoxious tw@t when he was a racer, and rather than saying "that was the way I went about winning" etc he actually sounded quite contrite and regretful.

  10. I don’t recall TBH he could well have done, I mistakingly recall Rutter winning but think he had a mechanical. I remember Fallappa winning the first race.
