Using my loaf all i need to do is run a positive to the front of the bike then i can take a ground from the frame/engine. Quite a heavy cable Soi should be able to run everything from that...
Heh - well, not really in the same league on here....assuming the engine was ok...this is a good sideline moneymaker (ie my own time is worthless) if this in its original state was offered to me - assuming the motor was working id have offered 300 quid max (probably 200) factor in...say 350quid for coating (and the engine too) and then allow another 200 for spares (and thats over the top) id sell this for about 1200ish (and it would last longer than any other flogged commuter out there....just my guess though....im assuming someone will chime in with "its only worth 500 quid mate...." type thing...
Just in case anyone is going to do something like this... Every grounding point must be ground back with a dremmel or something like otherwise your lovely new resto will be dead as a door nail..! This where the coil will go..
That's exactly what we found on my mates newly purchased RD400 last week - no earth at the coil mounts after plastic coating. It had been restored a few years ago but never run even though the seller said it had last run 6 months ago Luckily it runs sweet as a nut now and the pistons look new through the plug holes...
Getti g the wiring in now... Having a bit of a reset and clearing up.... Something I learned from my dad.... Any sizable work will increase the frequency of mess created. Every so often. Stop. Reset and clear up... The whole job will be easier in the long run...
Decided to whip the front headlight frame off to grind it as this will be a good mount point for the ground for the additional electrical stuff... Heated grips, USB sat nav mount etc etc... Ive also got a hid light which can be ran from here also... This is the heavy guage wire I taped in last night at the front also...
Can't finish it today... Still have to work out the hid light... Just about to assemble the front fairing..
Cheers - its definitely better than a few weeks ago....paneling is very scrappy so its not going to be show winner but the plan is to make sure its safe, reliable and hopefully a little bit faster...!! Ill be back on it tomorrow night and hopefully getting it started although ive still got the HID to work out....
Yep... Only an hour out here tonight but. . Electrically it's alive... Burnt through all the bownie points with the other half as I was in here all weekend.
