after using pretty much every chain lube variant on the market since when i was racing motocross back in the 1970s and 1980s, and street riding for the part 21 years, i've settled on Motul 102984 chain paste ... very little fly away, as it really sticks to the chain links ... and as it's a white colour, it's easy to visual check for road grime. https://www.amazon.com/Motul-Care-Chain-Paste-5-7oz/dp/B008KJT2SE/ref=asc_df_B008KJT2SE/
^^^^^100% . It's what the chain manufacturers recommend. It's cheap also. For regular cleaning: Simple Green. Dirt cheap too.
Simple Green is cheaper than chain cleaner. At least here in Canada it is. Simple Green is just a great chain degreaser that you can also use all over the bike to rid some of the road tar. Moreover, unlike Paraffin (aka Kerosene), Simple Green smells good and won't leave your garage smelling like a military hanger.
Just to say i bought a can of Wurth in the end following recommendations here. I don't do as many miles as lot of you, so it will be some time before I can say if it works for me !
I will use any kind of leftover engine oil in my Pro-Oiler. This is a great piece of kit which I have used for decades. Once installed, cleaning, greasing and adjusting your chain are a thing of the past.
Here's what Michael 'Neevesy' Neeves @ MCN has to say about chain lubes: https://www.youtube.com/clip/Ugkx6lVpMITs1yqxe00hZtRaRkoZcyBDXcrV
I use the same but not really for lubing, it's more for the chain's corrosion prevention. See post #30 above.
I just use gt85 and clean it after every ride and re lube. Takes 2 seconds to clean and re lube, no lengthy cleaning job, no mess build up, no chain cleaners. Works for me but obviously it’s soon gone in biblical rain. Sprockets are quick and easy to clean too. It’s very convenient.
SDOC100 although to be honest anything will do. If it flings shit it doesn’t really matter as I wash the bike more than I oil the chain and if it’s not quite as effective I buy a new chain and sprockets a bit earlier.
Degrease, clean, dry and then apply gear oil. I have a little spout can with a thumb lever (typical oil can) that I dribble over the chain after cleaning. I do it once every few months and has never failed me.
