899 Changing 899 Wheels

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Miike, Feb 11, 2016.

  1. The other thing u could do which would be better is to get some big washers and a threaded bar and a load of nuts and wind them through from behind (really hard to explain sorry) which will hopefully pull them out straight. Some heat will help but you don't want to destroy the rubbers

  2. I'll have a good look tomorrow but I don't think there's enough room to get a washer in behind. I think I know how you mean though

  3. Went into Riders Ducati today to see if they would remove the Cush drive rubbers and they said they wouldn't touch it as there is a high risk of damaging the wheel. The powder coater won't touch them with them in so I'm stuck!

I'm going to order some Oz Piega (again) tomorrow and sell them!

  4. Paint them far better than powder coating

  5. Can you recommend anyone?

  6. Most dealers could get them sprayed, or any local body shop would do it. I could recommend a few, but none close to you. Expect prices ranging from £50-200.

  7. My local dealers are the epitome of useless unfortunately but there are some decent bodyshops. Good shout, thanks mate

  8. Had these 899 rims painted a couple of years ago a far nicer finish than you will ever get with powder coating as you can see cush drives and bearings masked up,excuse the Marchesini sticker the paint shop put them on.

  9. Did a general spray shop do them or a wheel specialist? Look good!

  10. Had them painted at the same time as my bike by Rage, any good painter will get the same finish as jolly said expect to pay £100/£200.

  11. I made a puller to draw Cush drives out of a 900SS. But you need to be able to see them from the back. Cush drives look exactly the same.

  12. Where in the word are you?

  13. You can see them from the back but only just and the access is poor. I've tried Riders of Bridgwater and a Triumph dealer in Taunton and both said that they weren't willing to remove them due to risk of damage to the wheel so I'm not sure it's a good idea to attempt it myself really

  14. Taunton mate, near the Devon/Somerset border but regularly travel between Plymouth and Bristol

  15. Cush drives don't last forever, do they? So these dealers are going to have to start thinking of a way to replace them at some point....

  16. My thoughts exactly. Riders are pretty useless

  17. 200 miles away from me speak to Rides in Bristol they must know a good bodyshop

  18. Or not ! There must be a body shop with a good reputation somewhere around you or Google ally's wheels refurbishment

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  19. You could probably do it with a rawl bolt and socket if you can't get into the back to use a puller.

  20. Some black wheels on eBay
