Btw many people race for 20 years and never crash. Some race for a year and crash every time. Its not guaranteed you'll crash and most dont push themselves past the limit or have a really acute feel of whats happening under them And if you took that attitude you'd be spending 3k a year on helmets never mimd all the other stuff! Its got a kite, its good enough
I've never had any leather clothing split open during a crash, and I had a fair few crashes early on, so I wonder just how important triple stitching and kevlar thread really is. It's desirable, obviously, but is it really necessary? (I'm talking about road use of course, not track use). Where I have suffered damage is through sleeves and legs rolling up due to being too baggy. As has been said several times already, fit is very important.
Said FT suit burst the stitching, but more because of shit stretch materiel than crap thread. Althou the thread is crap too. And the arse is split open on my usual beaten up leathers, but thats after a couple of slides down the road
Race leathers tend to be treated a good dose of sliding after the initial impact. Road leathers have the initial impact to deal with, sliding, further impact (kerbs, lamp posts, cars, walls etc). I would not buy a pair of leathers without trying them for size, knowing where they where made and actually seeing finished items at the minimum. I hang around paddocks a bit, never heard of nexus (google it -lol). £500 is mid priced for leathers. Great deals can be had on last years models now - huge discounts. Sending you measurements via post and then a woefully crap guarantee period with nexus stuff makes me run a mile. Then again its not me who wants to dress up like a rossi.
Yes. Never really crashed on the road. Slow drop on a u turn type stuff and been in a few fields but always ended upright
I always stayed well clear of FT after spending a couple of days at Swift leathers with Varnsverry............He explained all about stitching gauges and grades of leather.....from quality German cowhide (my leathers) to the stuff being used by some manufacturers...some of which were using nappa (can be sheeps' leather) and some apparently still are, which is no bl**dy use to anybody if going sliding down the road....... Apparently the FT leather was lousy quality and thin...........which was born out by my driver's leathers at Lydden on the Shellgrip surface when the outfit turned over.............ripped the actual leather apart right across the shoulders. Mine got a light scuff on the bum and elbow. It also seems important not to have the leathers loose, particularly race leathers, as flapping leather at speed can cause skin and sub-skin injuries.

Yes but they're all a set size which doesn't fit my short legs and long torso. I'm too skinny for a large but too tall for a medium. Custom fit is the way forward.
Or...get some good used ones and pay £200 to get them refreshed and altertered. Am exploring this route myself as nothing fits and Glidd has made me wake up to the fact I am such a twat Or maybe not....
Because they're insurance companies and will use any excuse to get out of paying out. Probably along the lines that you willingly wore an item of protective clothing that by law had to comply to EC regulations, but that did not. If they can refuse to pay out for extra stickers what else can they refuse to pay out for?
