999 Chinese Levers...?

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by yellowducmaniac, Nov 27, 2014.

  1. I bought some too for my race bike. The only thing that I'm concerned about is how the push rod just slots in. Doesn't seem that secure

  2. As they are reportedly identical to the highly respected Pazzo levers, the design should be sound and seems to work just fine.

  3. Does anyone know where you can buy additional push rods?

  4. Mongoose, those are the exact ones I ordered. ....cheap as chips.

  5. For Brembo brake parts, you will need to go to a KTM dealer. Try Trevor Pope for online ordering.

  6. Looking at the parts diagram, it seems the pushrods come with the brake lever assembly for £75.00 each side.
    Second hand from broken levers??

  7. Ill try mode performance.

  8. Took another look at the Moto-racing.co.uk site and ordered a pair of these for my lever pivots.

What I have is something like this:

and they are a PITA to install cos you can't really see what you are doing and if they are located properly

  9. Well, the shortys turned up this morning 10 days after completing the order. No hidden extra shipping fees or hidden import taxes just £15.88 as specified. Inside the small thin plastic bag was a sheet of foam which incased two small bags of bubble wrapped shorty levers. First impressions of the undamaged levers or very good indeed. They appear to be well made. No ruff edges or miss matched plastic anywhere. In fact I'm rather chuffed with these although I'm yet to fit them. If they fit ok and work ok then I think thats £15.88 well spent and if they fail when using them then, well I rather not think of that. I post some pics when I've fitted them. Doesn't look to complicated to do. Just need a dry weekend. Fingers crossed.

  10. They look ok , what was the link?

  11. Check the play in the bolts as you may need to tighten them up a bit, but other than that they shouldn't give you any problems. They look like a nice finish, the colour is good and no obvious cheap machining (marks in the alu caused by over-using the cutting blades) and a bargain at that price!

  12. I've got some of these Ant and the wobble like mad. Your advise is spot on.

  13. Mine are not quite the same - they don't have the slot. They do have machining marks, but I will forgive them that at the price. Can't say I've noticed wobbling from mine, I will have to check.
One thing I did find though was to not go beyond the adjustment numbers, when clicking through. If you do that, you get less rather than more, if you see what I mean.

  14. Ive bought a set now....

  15. Fitting them is pretty simple in theory but frustrating in practice. I suggest you get the pushrods into the rubber boots before you fit the pushrods to the levers or the levers to the pivots. Trying to do it afterwards is a right pita and led to me tearing one of my boots.
Grease up the rod and boot and persuade it in, then locate the other end of the pushrod in the slot in the lever with the lever not quite in place at the pivot housing. Only then fully locate the lever in the pivot housing and push the pivot pin itself through.
I found replacing the clips at the bottom of the pivot pin very awkward, as you can't see what you are doing and it's difficult to be certain they are properly located. Removing the fairing panel would probably make this easier but I found some later brembo clips (see further up the thread) which should be much easier to use.
When I removed and replaced these clips, I put a large piece of cloth directly underneath, so as not to lose them!

Removing the original levers is simpler than it looks. All you need to do is remove the incomplete-circle style clips, which locate in grooves at the bottom of the pivot pins, underneath the lever. I used the flat side of a flat-bladed screwdriver pushing against the open ends of the clip to partially remove it and then fully removed it with long-nose pliers. Then withdraw the pivot pin upwards and pull the lever, complete with pushrods, out of the pivot housing and the pushrod dust-sealing boots.
I was lucky in that the pushrods needed no adjustment because the slot in the new lever corresponded exactly to the slot in the old one, despite the different design. Hopefully, you will be too.
