1200 DVT Chopped It In

  1. I think that honor goes to either the Tuono or SDR. The MT10 is certainly well regarded in the comparisons, but most I've seen favor the Aprilia or KTM naked in the final analysis. If however purchase price is more heavily weighted, then the Yamaha pulls in front.

  9. Or you could argue, if you want a bike that works avoid the Tuono, if you want a bike that holds its value avoid the KTM and Tuono, if you want a bike that sounds great and unique, looks different from the crowd but is just as fast on the road then buy the Yamaha.

    The idea that anyone only buys the MT-10 because they can't afford the others is frankly laughable.

  11. I agree. If you wanted a KTM or a Tuono and had a 10K budget you buy a nearly new. Depreciation works both ways - what's bad for the seller is good for the buyer. And with KTM, the savvy buyer never pays full price on a new bike anyway. There's always deals to be had as long as your money isn't burning a hole in your pocket.

    If you like a bike, buy it. Doesn't matter what anyone else thinks or what the journalists say. It your money and you're the one riding it. If it floats your boat, go for it. It's a bike. They're all good.

  13. The SDR is quick depreciating in what world ?? I've seen those 2016 SE's fetch more than the 12k they cost, and 14-17 SDR's still command 10k plus, it'll be the reason I have a new one, as the used one's don't appear to budge much, and there aint many around used, meaning folk don't wanna sell em, so not sure where the big KTM depreciation comes in ? other models maybe, but not the SDR as far as I can see :(

  14. You're probably right. Can't say I've really studied the SDR market as I'm not buying or selling. (When I bought mine new for 12K I could have turned round and sold it for more than I paid for it..) I'm thinking of the GT discounting fiasco and to a lesser extent the axing of the 1190 which pushed down used prices - to my benefit as it happened, as I snapped up a minter for a grand less than it should have been.

    If you're buying a new Superduke though, shop around. Some dealers are much better than others and there's often sweeteners to be had on extras, particularly the full Akra system. A few people have managed to shave £500 off the price of one of those and that's a saving well worth having.

  15. KTM substantially drop the new price of their unsold stock at the end of the year with alarming regularity. A sensible person would not buy either a new model KTM or one at the height of the buying season.

    That said, they probably do stabilise in s/h price after a few years but it is something that needs to be taken into account if buying new and only wanting to keep it for a couple of years at most.

  17. There are always deals to be done on most bikes 6 months post model launch, apart from Ducati. I got £2k off my KTM in August last year, seems like that’s more like 3k now!
     
  18. That's worth the thick end of 2.5 grand. And the Akra is a must, not a luxury. Transforms the bike.

  20. For info, I PXd the Multi for £7500 at almost exactly 3 years old. It was a standard model - I think it cost me £12,500 so that’s £5k dropped over 3 years. IMHO that’s not too bad. The MT-10 was £9999 so £2500 to change. I didn’t do the PCP thing - never really liked PCPs.
