749 Clutch Height

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by mattyboy 38, May 15, 2016.

  1. I've got the height roughly about but it ment kissing the last steal and friction plate will this cause any problems I've also fitted an old friction plate in first as per quite clutch then 1 steel Adams so on and so forth

  2. sorry Matt - What is kissing? Do you mean you have linished the face to make it thinner? Or do you mean you've removed one completely? Nothing wrong with removing a plate to get the right height as long as you alternate between friction and plain. Abiding by this rule, you can still add or remove (plain plate) packing at the back of the stack.

  3. Ha ha what I meant to say was at the top of the stack I've had to remove one friction plate and one steal so that the pressure plate falls on a steal and the height is correct give or take a mm what do you think

  4. I've also run it up on the paddock stand and it engages all gears up and down so I'm now going to put it on the road and see if it slips if so I'll add another steal at bottom end fingers X
I'll know in about an hour from me buying it it's always dragged and the lever was like pulling a concrete brick

  5. Providing you have got the stack roughly as I said in post #20, Plus you have all six Springs, plus the friction plates are in good condition with some meat on them and the steel plates are not totally blued and/or badly warped then there is no obvious reason why you should get clutch slip.

  7. Totally agree.
I'm running a really low stack height and get no slip.
The reduced preload on the clutch springs does give a lovely light lever though - two-finger light :)
