  5. I thought this was about plod targeting unfit drivers now that they've solved all other crime and have nothing else to do. Have I missed something? Sod Russia, Ukraine and Syria, stick to priorities: leave the old folk alone and ban all urban housewives (the wives of Bootsam's Beemer and Audi drivers) who move to the countryside and tear around in stupid 4X4s they don't need and can't drive.

  7. Yes C'mon chaps Back on Topic

As stated I'm totally against it.

What I'd like to see is dangerous driving targeted & from anecdotal evidence there is plenty of that (or it could be their all just oot their faces up here in the land of Weegie wi the drink & drugs).

Why give the enforcers new powers when they just pick and choose to enforce the easy stuff like speeding. Give em another soft target and they'll just exploit too.

  8. modern tech should low for random testing. insurance company's can have units fitted to cars to reduce insurance.. who long until they insist on medicals. still don't see a problem with compulsory eye tests. took half an Oxycontin last year for tooth ache. sent me lala for two days.

  9. well whose interpretation of dangerous would you go by,,,,at the moment some feel it is dangerous to be driving when you have some debilitating illness or condition which makes you incapable of controlling your vehicle, whither that is an ageing related issue is of no consequence

  10. glad it's not me at tho mo. wouldn't want to be officer that's got to tell the next of kin, deffo dont want to be told at an inquest that my wife or kids had been killed by someone that was to vain to get an eye test..not much input i know but at the moment and with the greatest of respect if yer past driving your past driving. dont want plod deciding tho. would be better coming from a doc.

  11. My son has type 1 diabetes, has done since he was 18 months.
When he applied for his driving licence he had to include a medical report from his diabetic consultant verifying he has good control and has had no serious hypos. His licence is valid for five years not ten and when he re applies another medical report will be required.
Every year he has an eye test with a Glaucoma check and a digital retinal photograph taken of the back of his eyes. All good with no problems I`m glad to say.
Being diabetic doesn`t mean you are automatically a menace to other road users, it just means you have to listen to what your body is telling you and not ignore the warning signs.

A question for anyone who doesn`t wear glasses.
When was the last time you had an eye test? 2 years.........5 years?
As the road signs get blurry do you just move your seat one notch closer to the windscreen and carry on? This is a luxury not afforded to our visually impaired chubby brethren I`m afraid.
How many of the fit, fine specimens on here have driven when full of cold? Are you concentrating on the road ahead or dreaming of the nice warm bed you could/should be in?
A blanket ban on certain groups would be unfair, where do you draw the line. Ban the old, they dither. Ban the young, they`re reckless and crash alot, maybe. No diabetics. No fatties. What about people with arachnophobia? Spider drops down from sun visor, driver screams and panics, veering wildly from side to side.
Now we`ve got rid of all those undesirables, what about all those reckless bikers...........
