  13. It is a pain in the ass being registered and a unwelcome additional cost, bit it is a lot more than glass spec, trickle vents, boiler flues, fire escape, part q regs, disabled access to name a few, the fitter and the surveyor should have a mct card to confirm they know all the regs, I have exams ever couple of years to keep on top of the regs, also Fensa/Certass company's must issue a third party 10 year insurance backed warranty.

  14. He mentioned the 10 year warranty - and they are a long established company with a showroom 10 mins away from me :)

  15. You will need a Fensa certificate for the door and building control certificate for the new doorway if you ever decide to sell the property.

  16. PAS24 is burglary test using hand tools...I am currently selling 3 different door types that are PAS24 tested.(unfortunately all are internal grade mostly for posh flats in CE London)
SBD..a limited company, although they pretend is run by the police...all they are doing is basically look at PAS24 testing evidence and then request additional evidence from the applicant that a third party is auditing the manufacturing process and quality control on annual basis. (something like ISO 9001 is accepted).

Burglars will use electrical tools and probably attack the property from the back garden (the Ducati Shed in your case :) therefore I would not be to concerned about PAS24 or SBD certification.
Get a proper bespoke hardwood door with good quality hinges, eurocylinder, escutcheon and multipoint lock Winkhaus AV2 or Glutz MINT (3 points should be more than enough). Laminated glass is a must...
Post 41 seems an interesting design.

  17. I worked in this game (electronic Security, Bosch) for many years....
The best you can hope for is make yours harder to get in than the neighbours.... villains are basically lazy....
Battery grinders, drills, nibblers together with Cobalt, liquid nitrogen has made most security devices easy game for the intelligent wrong-un.

  18. +1 on Rock doors
