Corrosion on the 899

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Cupid Stunt, Jan 30, 2014.

  1. Umm! I went and had mine ACF 50'd by allyearbiker and it is sitting in the garage covered in poop as its to cold to clean it lol
so I guess I'll see what its like when I eventually wash the crap off it??

  2. I'll give you five hundred quid for it, and take a chance it survives the winter!

  3. Errrrrrrrrr I think not mate I love riding my Panigale

  4. £500 is taking the piss mate I,ll give you £700

  5. I had front calliper seize and dish the disc (front) on my new Sprint ST. Dealer replaced but Triumph rejected the claim saying
    Neglect and/or bad maintain !
I had done 2400 miles. That was my last triumph .

  6. Mine has been in a heated garage since I got it, it's only been out a few times (less than 300 miles) and has not been treated with ACF 50 and has never been washed apart from a polish of the shiny bits ( its not dirty) I will get it out and look at it tomorrow and report back any problems

  7. Jimmy my only gripe is the corrosion, thank you for your kind bid but unfortunately I have to decline, the grin factor when riding it is priceless :)

  8. Just gave mine a look over and glad to say I haven't not noticed any corrosion, admitedly ive only done 190 miles but two of the four times ive been out on it, it was raining quite heavily and I washed the whole bike down with warm soapy water and rinsed off after every ride.

Vince hopefully yours is a one off. Nice to see your dealer is making amends though :upyeah:

  9. Thanks Bungle, just got to wait for Renthal to get their finger out and make an anodised one as thats what my dealership want to fit, they dont want to replace it with a Ducati replacement part. :upyeah:

  10. I'm sorry, but ffs do you really have to wash and dry your bike down, pamper it with soft towels and special talk, after EVERY ride and doubly so it its had a spot of rain on it, or it turns into fuzz and red mess?!!!

Maybe its coz I got up late and cant rode my bike, maybe I'm in a girly mood, but right mow they can come and tale this pile of shit and give me my money back if it needs that kind of regime to keep it in good nick!

  11. i guess its just a question of pride………….

  12. Or anal obsession with preening. I'd rather ride it like I stole it, find mine and its limits, and stick thousands of miles on it before it goes to someone else to benefit from a well run in, powerful and reliable motor. My attention to detail is reserved for what pays me: work. The rest gets just enough...

  13. I take pride in my bike, but I want something I can ride regular not spend 3 weekends cleaning it and one weekend riding.
The whole point is I took every precaution to protect the bike, and that appears to be not enough so what does that tell you, the parts they are using are obviously sub standard, I had the 848 and the 848 evo both went out all year round pretty much and all I ever did with those was have them ACF50 treated at purchase and after that about once every 6wks I would give it a bit of a clean (bodywork only) I never touched sprocket and chain apart from giving it a coating of lube, I bought the 848 Evo in March 2011 by the end of the year it had 11,000 miles on the clock and still looked in mint condition and NO corrosion.

  14. I've told you a thousand times not to exaggerate …….ride it for all four weekends by all means….and it takes a short time after each one to top its cleanliness back up…..

i don't doubt you have taken every caution but the honest answer is that the 899 is a budget bike built to a price…..

  15. Fixed that for you

  16. Bradders think your going a bit OTT there ive had to wash my bike down every time because its been covered in muck and filth from the roads as it has been either raining heavily or the roads were still wet in places along with all the crap sprayed up from cars, lorries etc. What is wrong with taking care of your possesions? The way your coming across im glad I won't be buying anything you have ever owned!

My bikes will get used for what they are built for and once run in I will be/have been opening them up as much as I can.

  17. Daft thing to say, are you seriously trying to suggest that all the materials in the 899 are substandard compared to the 1199 just because it has a smaller engine? Sure its got a DSS and a different dash but thats like saying the 748 is a budget bike made of substandard materials compared the the 916/996/998 and so that bike must corrode aswell!

  18. I can only go by what has happened to my bike, maybe the salt on the roads is unusually corrosive this year maybe its radioactive who knows, all I know is I have had my street fighter out over the last few weeks and it hasn't been washed and its not showing any signs of corrosion so it begs the question have they used cheaper parts on the 899

  19. i think its a disgrace, you just spent 12+k on a bike and its going rusty all ready, imagine what its going to look like in 3 years time

  20. well the 748 and 996 and 998 al had the same swing arm, dash, discs and uncle tom cobbly, so i wouldn't say that…..and, where have i suggested that ALL the materials are substandard? stop exaggerating!

but it is a budget bike built to a cheaper price….

you can fool some of the people…………etc etc…and you think i am daft!
