I bought the bike already built, i believe the bike was originally built by a chap called Darren Brant (?) who specializes in these RS500 builds. From memory it was Stan Stevens tuned with circa 110bhp at back wheel. The only downside was it needed regular jetting/tweaking to make it run sweet - on a cold spring day it was mega, and the noise was pure GP500 Handing was so so, and not as good as the std Aprilia RS250, the wavey discs/brake caliper/brake pad combo was horrible I sold it for 5.5k a few years back, i'm sure if i still had it, it would sell for a lot more today....
I remember following an RGV back in pre history. I could tell which way it had gone by the whiff of Castrol R. Oh happy days. (I miss my Gixer 750H
Whilst not 1980's - I do love my old Suzuki GT550 - yes it looks like crap and the front brake is unbelieveable (in a bad way !!) but I can put a smog over Lancashire when I start it up !! And I just enjoy riding it.
I want a 40 year old 2 stroke to avoid paying tax and MOT costs, but prices are scary!Had several in the late '70s growing up, then some off-roaders. The RG500 I had in 1987 was terrible though - just didn't match the hype and not worth £17k at today's prices. Still love the smell of 2 strokes and the sound. I think if the bike is ok and you know what you are doing, they are a good ownership proposition - lot less moving parts than a Desmo after all
Just sold a couple of Kawasaki triples but held onto 2 H2-750 and one H-500left, one of the 750 that is modified brakes frame wheels, was shipped to Paul Gast Fast by Gast Pro-stock Drag Racing in the US, it now has nearly double the original HP, its like pushing the fast forward on a video when it lights up BUT you got to nurse the triples, own one you never want to sell it
One of the LC/RD Crazy Forum members has put this up on fleabay - he says Buy it Now is £7500- reserve £6500 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-MC...992109?hash=item1a60c9de6d:g:isIAAOSwpE5bpk6a
The caveat to being MOT exempt at 40 years old is that the vehicle has not been subject to substantial changes. Good luck Ronaldo. https://www.gov.uk/historic-vehicles https://www.classicandsportscar.com...fies-position-mot-exemption-modified-classics
It's still got 2 wheels, a frame and an engine My YR5 hasn't had substantial changes, just loads of bits taken off
I think being a motorbike, it really has to have been heavily modified to not qualify for MOT exemption. I thing @wroughtironron 's new forks and swinger will be OK.
