The ex-PDI guy says the pieces of ally swarf that get cut off eventually, can often be seen squeezing out of the gap like a flattened bit of fingernail while still hanging on to the plug.
Just done a full service on my ie at 25,000 miles. The oil filter screen was completely clear, nothing at all, so it would appear that even early injected SS's got the steel blanking plug. Woohoo
