Crashed 2013 Pikes Peak rebuild!

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by stretta, Dec 31, 2013.

  1. You never have time to ride the bikes you have!
You'll have even less time now as you'll be permanently in the garage! Lol

  2. Hi re cleaning your pillion seat, might not be the cheapest of solutions, but try this:

Starbrite Vinyl Polish & Restorer, Boat Cleaner & Polish | Mailspeed Marine

I had cement dust from a builder end up over my bike when I got home from work one night, and yes it had rained streaking it all over the vinyl. Safe to say I was livid. Remembered I had this stuff from my boat and with a light scrub with a nail brush it came up like new. It has numerous uses if you think about it, doesn't 't go off and will last for years. Hope it works anyway.

Really admire your effort with this bike, hats off to you mate!

    Dave

  3. What about a new seat cover I've had one make for a spare seat with extra padding in for my pikes peak 2013, to match the back seat cost about £70 from Sheffield seat trimmers 01142448033

  4. I'd get the bike repaired and useable for the minimum cost.

It will always be listed as a Cat C so will never be worth the same as a non-crashed bike. As i understand it, this was your reason for buying it, to get a Pikes Peak for you to use for least expense.

  5. Looks like a good job on those seats! I like the red stitching, it goes well with the PP colour scheme.

I was thinking exactly the same thing, I'm gonna take the seats to a local car upholstery place and have them 'refinished', perhaps with a little extra padding for my fat arse!

Did they do the same for the pillion seat?

  6. Yep, exactly. I'd never have been able to get a PP any other way. But you know how it is, can't resist a bit of 'bling' or something fancy! I've never left any bike standard :(

I only need a couple more parts and finally get the rear wheel straightened, and it'll be job finished I think!

  7. No I just had the spare front recovered and 12mm more foam it's lovely and soft now so I can swap between the two if I want sporty or comfy :) for a bit of touring

  8. That front end looks like it needs a lot of work! New axle rod for a start - does the front wheel actually turn? Since the wheel has floated out of true I expect the calipers are bent and probably a fork leg too. What was that about £5k!? It must be taken to a frame specialist for jigging and realignment.

  9. Have you ever taken the front end of anything apart? Calipers bent?!?! lol

The front end steers fine and the wheel spins freely.

It was a REAR end impact, the bike fell on its nearside with very little peripheral damage.

Once I have the time to take apart the front end, I'll be checking the yokes/forks/discs/wheel and axle and I'm confident it won't require much remedial work (if any). I'm not even sure if the front wheel is buckled at all!

  10. Well it better look straight cos the guys at mot/vic will laugh in your face otherwise. Even the mot is a rigorous check these days and if the head angle has changed, which I think has, that must be sorted. Have you ever had a tank-slapper so bad its thrown you over the bars? I'm surprised that bike is a cat 'C' and not 'B'.

  11. Calipers bent? lol

  12. Bikes don't need a VIC.

VIC on cat vehicles are to check for ringing, not condition of repairs.

  13. I gave up replying to the chap who obviously knows the bike better than me, and has formulated his own engineers report on the basis of some (crap) pictures taken by me!

    I give up, honestly.

  14. The calipers arent bent. It'll be the pads. Theyll be bent. Maybe the copper slip behind the pads has got thicker on one pad....

  15. Doesn't help that I don't think half the people are even reading your own reports lol.

Personally, get the bike working, it's looking great mate, and the fucking texture on the seats is a nightmare! My pillion seat has 'dirt stain' if there is such a thing, been trying to get rid of it for ages, next step is degreaser and a nail brush.

Oh, as for those worrying about safety and stuff, you have clearly never ridden/built a rat bike lol.

  16. No its definitely not the pads. Maybe the tyres are bent. No, its the copper slip, thats bent, yep, definitely the copper slip :/

  17. I know! Whats that all about? Whats the point of a materials finish you can't bloody clean!?

The mud was caked on, and when I washed it in the shower (!) it looked like it had all come off, but when it dried, that brown shit was still there! I've sort of given up cleaning it, gonna have the covers refinished by a local upholsterer (mainly cos of the tears around the edges).

  18. Yea, mine is from road spray after a lot of fun down some VERY dirty B roads after a load of flooding so tonnes of mud.

It's almost gone but it's still there. Not sure why... I scrubbed and scrubbed with the sponge lol.

  19. I'm glad you can laugh off some of the crazy replies your getting. The bike is looking good stretta and it's sure to be a great runner. I have the same issue with the seat, have some Utah mud on it that won't come off.

  20. Maybe the viscosity of the copper slip has increased and the heat has condensed the copper out of the compound. There could be lumps of copper in there. Well known problem is having lumps of copper on your pads. Should've used molybdenum grease.
