He was saying after the race that the bikes shit in the first half of the race. That's what they need to work on, so that he can be on the pace quicker and earlier, not towards the end.
I like Cal, I like his attitude. I think he needs to get a little PR advice, but I like the way he calls it as he sees it. To be fair to him, the factory bikes of Jorge and Vale have a different, underseat fuel tank that Cal doesn't have. It puts the weight of a full tank lower and further to the rear and gives less weight transfer making the bike more stable on corner entry on a full tank, in the first few laps. This is why Cal suffers there at the moment and why that has been their focus in trying to set the bike up. When the fuel load is down he can be as fast as anyone, his laptimes attest to that. He'll get a bit more consistency as he matures and gets more experience. If he gets a factory bike he can ride he could well and truly be in the hunt. Go the Honey Badger! And I'm an Aussie, get behind your sportsmen! That's a general comment, not specifically aimed at you Steve
Good point about the underseat tank TP. This makes an enormous difference to a bike's handling. I noticed this when riding one of BMW's latest tourers. This setup might well become the norm in the future.
The Honda Gold Wing was introduced with an underseat tank in 1974. Has it taken people 39 years to decide this was a good idea?
Seems so. No factory Yamaha future for Cal Crutchlow - | Motorcycle Sport | MotoGP News | MotoGP Results | MCN
ducati the graveyard of champoins beaten by crt's. love him to get Honda ride cant see it ,works suzuki still long way off ? he just got to keep up the front rest of the season and hope for change of heart
Thinking about it, is it such a terrible move to Ducati? I've always said it would be foolish, but Audi have yet to fully get involved with the bike development etc. Surely we'll see proper development next year and a bike in transition which Crutchlow can put his own stamp on?
I think it makes a huge difference when you're riding on the edge. To be fair I reckon I'd be the same pace on Jorge's bike as I would on Cal's ... dead slow, but those guys can take advantage of the difference. My very first bike, a Suzuki Across ('91 GSX-250) had an underseat fuel tank. The filler cap was above the rear brake light, behind the seat, and the faux tank was an empty storage space. You could fit a full face helmet in there or half a carton of beer, a bag of ice and a bottle of port. Apparently.
Just to muddy the waters ... No factory Yamaha future for Cal Crutchlow - | Motorcycle Sport | MotoGP News | MotoGP Results | MCN Sorry, post repeat, duke63 above
the uk is a small market and outside of the uk crutchlow wont carry much marketing weight ?? especially when he doesnt endear himself to the media
I think Ducati would sell more bikes in America or elsewhere by winning a few races rather than having a media-friendly guy riding it right now.
