Whatever you decide to do freshage, I am sure you will enjoy it ! Good idea to just get the boring bits out of the way like you say. I have a 1098 myself nowadays. I do fancy a multi but I would need a pikes peak and I can't afford one lol!
When i was posted to Germany, i did Perth to dover - calais - Osnabruck in one go! About 860 miles. Bloody aching as it was all motorway and i was on a gixxer 600 with tank bag and rucksack!!!
s-Hertogenbosch (Holland) to Livorno (Italy) overnight in less than 24 hours - with the bike, on a sleeper train
We done 1100 miles in one shot a few yrs back. I was on an RR7 firebalde. No ( rubbish ) tank bags, just tail pack. Stuck at a steady 100 mph all the way back to Roscoff. ( we made an error with the return date on the ferry ). Marlboro l!ghts and coffee kept me going...( dont smoke no more ). Long stints are acvhievable with a good nights sleep and no booze. On sportsbikes, you egt into the groove and clock down the miles. I was getting 180 mls at each fill, no kidding. ( bike was stock at the time ). Gratuitous pic of aforementioned bike That was a real mile muncher, very comfy wih the help of a zero gravity db screen.
Most i've done in one day on a bike is just under 500, two up. The passenger makes a difference and you don't say if you are solo. I have done Hertfordshire to Monaco in one hit and then turned round and managed about 100 miles of the return journey. That was in a van and was very stupid, literally could not focus so had to stop.
I'm going there to meet a friend in s-Hertogenbosch on the second Thursday. Love the town, good laugh in some of the small clubs!
