Cycling boxes at traffic lights - London

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Twin4me, Aug 12, 2013.

  1. I agree there is a good case for motorcycles to use the box and also bus lanes.

  2. Seems weird to me that the one group of road users who pay no road tax, no insurance, no road tolls, no VAT on fuel, and therefore contribute next to nothing to the upkeep of the roads, seem to think that they deserve special treatment on the roads that everyone else has paid for... And still can't be bothered to use the cycle paths - that we have also paid for... Call me cynical...

  3. ^^^
a typical insular attitude of a car driver who thinks he has sole right to the road.

special treatment - you bet your ass ;)
I want all cycle lanes painted red like a red vip carpet ;)
you dont pay anymore to use the roads than I do - you pay to run your car
you get a bigger car it costs more to run. get a smaller car it costs less. go electric...less again.
roads were there long before the car was

name me one toll road where cyclists are allowed -lol
life is full of choices - you dont like tolls, use another road..

  4. It costs us nothing to give cyclists more space and time. Over the past few years car drivers have been doing this for us.

Cyclists are vulnerable. Sure they skip junctions etc. So what. Just keep an eye out for them.

Its the bloody mopeds I hate. Blocking all my filter lanes. :) Using all the Cycle park spaces :) Getting up my arse when filtering (a Termi blast usually backs them off)

Seriously though, weve all got to share the road. Courtesy costs nothing. I give em space and time. I'm on their side, even though I wont ride a pushbike. Especially In London, you have to be nuts. Fair play to them.

  5. I'm glad there is a red box for cyclists to be in while waiting for the lights as I know where they are
It just means you can't go on green like a lunatic to get across as they go first

The amount of car drivers that sit on yellow boxes blocking access get right on my chest!!! But that's ok then fine the buggers I say!!

  6. Car drivers here in Ireland use them for jumping the lights.

  7. Car and lorry drivers here jump the lights all the time it's become a trend and going to end in tragedy

  8. Normal in London as well which means clearly cyclists should not go first as bloke in car jumping light will flatten him. Not to mention cyclists should not jump red no excuse there.

I think I will get a banger GS with metal paniers. Make sure they have sharp bits sticking out and overtake all cyclists super close after lights.

Anyone who says cyclists will set off faster are lunatics. Only way cyclist sets off faster is if he/she goes on red.

  9. Surely you dont mean like this
Ben-Hur... chariot race clip - YouTube

  10. One toll road that cyclists use for free - the Tamar Bridge. There ! You don't like the way cyclist get treated - get the bus !

  11. No of course not no matter how tempting. It could be classed as an offensive weapon. However if my panier is bent so that a bit of it forms a spike ....... hm

  12. Luca, I worry about you sometimes

  13. We don't have these boxes in NZ, but it sounds like a good idea.

They'll all be in one place so you will be able to take more out at once, better hit ratio :upyeah:

  14. I am so glad I dont live darn sarf

  16. Dunbass! LOL! Every road in central london is a toll road during the week and daylight hours. Thanks to the congestion charge.

  17. which is one of the reasons why cycling in London makes so much sense.

  18. I love motorcycling in london. Cycling for me has its problem with theft. 7 push bikes in around 10 years. 1 motorcycle in 6 years.

  19. So, does this mean that cyclists that use the busy dual carriageway instead of that newly provided cycle path will be taken to task, i think not!
How many times have you seen a cyclist jumping red lights and being a general pain in the ar*e when they cannot be bothered to use the underpass or cycle filter that our tax money has provided for them?
