We only have a very basic sky package, so I'm watching it on Eurosport 2 at 8pm each evening, but to be honest the coverage is dire. The short films about heros, teams, etc are interesting but too short, and to get through the results of each class it's rushed through with very little footage of the vehicles actually powering through terrain at speed, which lets face it, is what we want to see. It needs at least 2hrs each night, not 1hr starting late, finishing early, and split up with 3 x 5min ad breaks.
I only have Freeview, so I don't even get that. Just watching the clips on the Dakar website. I thought they were really short and disjointed to give you a flavour and to encourage you to subscribe to a pay per view channel, but reading your comment Nasher, maybe they are just not very good at producing quality footage.
The Dakar is a great sport and it does deserve better coverage. I appreciate the nature of the event does involve trying to capture race action over huge milage in very difficult terrain (it's not like filming snooker!) but I think more can be done with onboard cameras, drones and film crews at key locations.
Has anyone here ever competed in it? It's been a dream of mine to compete as a privateer on a bike for my 40th, but as that creeps closer, the costs get bigger. Doubt it'll ever happen, maybe one day!
