Damage Help & Advice-anything Appreciated

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Symon Moore, May 20, 2018.

  1. I dunno bradders - a 25 mph t bone into a car for me a few years back was enough to trash a set of r6 forks...

  2. Oh FFS is fracturing your collarbone & stressing over my 2nd true love (ahem) a good enough excuse for forgetting your wedding anniversary? Aaarrrgggghhhh, not my best ever weekend, truth be told! Need some womanly “getting out of the crap” type advise @Ducbird

  4. Back on topic - if it was me, id strip everything off the bike thats damaged put it to one side and take it from there, bit by bit....paneling is repairable....find a paint shop (im sure theres someone on here "who knows someone") box it all up and send it off. Pound to a pinch of salt any paint shop is going to be snowed under with work - most of them are if theyre good. If the paneling has "disappeared from your view" as it were - then subliminally youll feel thats somethings happening...assuming it takes a while for it to be turned around then (and i cant say here) your finances will catch up a bit.... the left over bits, then i would start your search and look for second hand stuff....

The above is the attack vector ive taken myself. It depressed me to see my hyper sitting at the back of the garage with a seized solid engine. It didnt cost me a penny to take it to pieces and apply the above logic (just 60 quids worth of fuel initially to get the engine up to Ducati John) and, as stated - he knows his stuff so he's snowed under with work so the engine is sitting there waiting in line to be rebuild, in which time ill have gone through 2 paydays so i can send him a bit of cash each time. So, while not having the whole lump of money, ive already covered the coating of the engine, and sent him an initiall 600 quid to cover the engine strip, the replacement crank, balancing and a few other things. When he actually starts the rebuild ill have covered most of the spares bill (maybe all of it) then the left over cost will be his labour.

  5. I’d consider that a lot of force! 25mph to dead stop....

  6. Yeah - sorry - i kinda took "alot of force" as way more than that..! :)

It did feel like it - i think i managed 3 full cartwheels before i hit the ground...

  7. Sorry to hear, hopefully front major work (it didn't 'touch down' on front axle?) won't be much more than a swivelled clip-on and a distorted headlamp/instrument holder. As for 'clicking' have you tried bouncing front with back brake applied instead? Doesn't happen on mine but older front Brembo brakes could make a similar sound when pads moved slightly in housing on applying brake only.

  8. Busted shoulder Chris, I’ll not be bouncing anything up & down for a while! Great advice though, I’ll get my son to check it out later. Love this forum!

  9. Missed the bit about you being hurt, too bike centric (as all real bikers are ;) )

  10. That would be any one of us on here brother! Appreciate everyone’s gws’s but definitely more bothered about the bike

  11. Yet to make a self healing bike. We heal up reasonably well though, so clearly we are more worried about the correct thing

  12. If you want/need to get your forks checked out, and can get the bike up Preston way, this fella has an excellent reputation and is much cheaper than Kais (job for job comparison on my monster).

Get well soon, and good luck with the bike.

  16. If it was mine I would just do the minimum to get it back on the road, then sort the damage over the winter. That way you have time to shop around for parts/services and get a few bob together.Give you something to think about while you mend. All the best.

  18. Yes it did i lost my confidence
If I could have got back on it would have been ok but the longer I was off the worse it got
I even bought a monster with every intention and every excuse not to ride

  19. It was on the car. Next insurance was the bike which was just the 600SRAD, I didn't mention it as I didn't think it would count as I didn't claim. Policy was about £100 and when Swinton did a search after I'd taken out the policy they came back wanting an extra £30. I argued and got nowhere. Don't really know what it did to car insurance as I told them about it for next 5 years after that . Wasn't happy. :-/

  20. Sorry to hear that. Hope your confidence returns one day. Personally I’m itching to get back on but it’ll be a few weeks yet I guess.
