Damage Help & Advice-anything Appreciated

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Symon Moore, May 20, 2018.

  1. @Chris good advice yesterday, no “clicking” noise when front is bounced with rear brake only, but does with front brake applied. Hopefully forks are good then?

  2. Good News Symon, surely a small step forward. As you say, hopefully no fork damage but if you come across anything major with the geometry and main structure on the bike that gives you cause to suspect otherwise then i'm sure you will investigate further, it's just not worth the risk. Lower yoke can often get a tweak in similar circumstances but this may not even be apparent until you take the forks off as it 'springs' out of alignment. When you inspect the central steering lock stop on the frame and the corresponding R/H adjustable lock stop on lower yoke (bike went down on L/H side?) for possible damage you will get an idea of the severity the steering went onto full lock during the crash (it almost certainly will have gone full lock). The central tab stop on the frame is not as strong as earlier designs and is often a tell-tale sign of accident damage.

  3. I expect the panels will be about £150 each to repair/repaint.

    If it was me I'd:

Remove forks and send to somewhere like 100% suspension. They are probably due an oil change anyway (unless you know it's been done) and they'll do the oil and seals and check over for about £120 return post. Then you have faith in the forks and they'll be good for another 5 years or so.

Repair the broken fairing with Q-Bond (search you tube), won't look pretty but bike will be rideable. touch in with filler and touch-up paint if it makes you feel better.

Replace gear lever, or maybe some nice rearsets?

    Replace grip.

Spend 30 mins a week on eBay search for good used or NOS parts. I've just done the same with my 999 and found a NOS upper left in Holland for £120 delivered, cheaper than painting, 100% right and I can sell the old panel.

It will take a while but if the bikes a keeper that would be my approach.

You sure the left clip-on is straight? I'd remove and roll it on a flat surface.
