Dealer offered to buy back my 848

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by redsail, Jun 18, 2013.

  1. The amount of times 'he's' changed his mind I was begining to think maybe a female

  2. Moved to men's health page

  3. Funny you should mention that.

I was cogitating, whilst weeding (bugger all else to do with the brain) that although women don't much know what they want, they are very sure about what they don't want. It's a start, I suppose.

Many of the things they don't want are what the guy they share their lives with does want.

  4. So, I've received the offer from the dealer on a brand new 848 Corse SE for £11,900 delivered.

Should I take it? I know some of you wouldn't do business with them again after selling me a crashed bike.

2nd hand/ex dem they seem to be around £10/10.5k with up to 2.5k miles on them

I'm not sure if they were including the 1st service in that deal.

  5. New bike = full warranty, no one's buggered with it, it's all yours. There is something nice about a virginal bike.

But you pay for the privilege. In this case, a premium of 11900/10250 = 16% seems to me to be well worth it.

I generally buy new, but then I keep my bikes for at least 5 or 6 years normally. If you're going to change them often, then yes, you take the hit on continually buying new ones. But I see no reason to change them often.

Try and wangle the first service and sign. And if you can't get it, still sign. Maybe wangle some free kit (if you need it).

  7. Hmm... this bike would be 2013. New and just in, so he says, (so would be the grey one which I now prefer)

But you're right the other for 11995 is still a new bike, so where is the saving?

Edit: Er why do all their new bikes say 2012?

  8. Looking around you're saving about £400ish. I still wouldn't buy from them, but that's me. Heard too many stories about riders to ever buy from them.

  9. It's not Riders. They're not local to me at all.

Edit: I'm not making much sense today... I mean the dealer I bought the white Evo from and who is making me the offer on a new bike is not local to me. Riders of course are.

  10. Gotcha. At the start of the thread I thought you said riders. My bad.

  11. No worries, your heads up on MR prices are very helpful... more than you might at first realise

  12. So......to save me reading back through this what what have you decided to do/buy? And from where?

  13. Well, I've only just had the dealer's offer, so still pomdering. But it doesn't look like it's particularly good in the light of abmatt's info.

  14. So to save me going back over..........what was abmatts info?

  15. You lazy feckr

Oh hells bells... I think I'll write today off, didn't see abmatt's correction, my brain has gone to sleep I think. 2012 price list. What a dimwit I am. Ta for the promt to reread ET

  16. After your experience I can understand you considering in getting a brand new bike,I presume if u do want a new bike u can pretty much go to any dealer to get one,but I would be reluctant to use the same one who has in my opinion let u down quite badly

  17. Yeah. Thing is I had no intention of buying a new bike when I got the dodgy Evo, which would have been perfect as it ticked all the right boxes (low miles, serviced, warranty, year and condition, new tires...and white :) basically hassle free riding for a good while, so I thought.

  18. It's turning into quite an epic thread this redsail :upyeah:
