899 Dealers No Longer Taking Orders For New 899s

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by duke63, Jul 21, 2015.

  1. Maybe they are not selling more than they can make so stock ran out.

It does seem strange i was excited by the 899 but now i need to know about the new model before i buy.

  2. Which is frustrating the hell out of the dealers because that's at least 2 of us who are literally ready to pull the trigger but can't

  3. Face facts. Scrambler breaking records. Multistrada breakimg records. 1299 selling well. Capacity is fairly limited, its not Ford or even Land Rover, and if 899 facelift is coming its better imho to run out of stock for a bery short period than kill the new value of old stock when you release the new model

  4. They are selling more than they make if they stop making them! Automotive production lines run one model out and one in - immediately... strange situation.

  5. That actually makes sense to me. Guess I need to start saving till November.

  6. The Evoque doubled volumes in the first year - they made them all, bit easier with bikes if the volumes increase. They will have shut for August though no matter how full the order book was :)

  7. For someone in the trade I cant believe you think a small shed-style operation, with likely one or two single line production operations, can make bikes (still much by hand) quicker than the multi million pound LR site with single platform/multiple derivative lines that can cope with up and down weighting volumes as they have more reliance upon electronic assembly and where the biggest headache is likely parts productionmand delivery in time not resources to man the lines

Or maybe you work in the IT section ;)

  8. The dealer will not know, just speculate. Mines saying a street fighter style but with a new name.
    Ken,Ryu,Guile - take your pick...

  9. The Evoque was a new platform at the time, it was and still is a single line in the UK. The lead times for greater output was a far bigger challenge than increasing a mainly manual line, the costs are disproportionate too. So, quite simply you are wrong. And I worked on the Evoque in Engineering / Design / Development / Prototyping / Capital Equipment Timing and Launch Support from 2.5 years before launch. Ducati would also have had an open Capex availability from Audi for a popular and profitable model - as I said, it is a strange situation :)

  10. Well if anyone is interested in an 2nd hand 899 with extended warranty at a knock down price I'm you man...;)

I want to buy a Brutale sooner rather then later... Saying that a Ducati street fighter could change my mind.

  11. Edited too early :)

  12. BOOM!!
Can't believe that this bike has been around so long and it's only just had a spy shot leaked! I posted that two weeks ago and it was pretty common knowledge then.

  13. So your obviously a man in the know then... without giving away your source, why do you think '955' I must admit I wondered if Ducati would do that to give the bike a little more torque as well as power.

I guess that would explain why they have properly stopped the production line then for 899.

  14. Don't believe everything I post as I'm probably some kind of stooge ;)

Think back to when Ducati did the 749, 749S and 749R; The R was 749cc but the other two were 748cc. In other words the "special" had a completely different engine configuration and capacity.

If you look at the 1:1 bore/stroke ratio chart, to keep it Superquadro, 955cc is do-able in a v-twin.

And... I've also been told that is the capacity ;)

  15. I'm actually a little disappointed, don't want more power really

  16. But if it's a special wouldn't they still sell the original base model?
