Denzil Down

Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by Denzil the Ducati, Oct 3, 2019.

  1. Get well soon mate !

  2. Get well soon, Denzil. And trust you make a full recovery.

Are any drivers paying attention when they are behind the wheel? I got run off the road by a truck coming the other way, that swerved into my path just last week. Every commute seems to involve at least one muppet doing something incredibly stupid through inattention.

  3. Saddened to read all this this morning. Get well soon Denzil, take the drugs, you know it makes sense!

Don't be a plonker, just do as you're told by the doctors and nurses, nom de plume, son!

As far as the bike goes, just remember, anything mechanical can be fixed, Belgique fabrique, as they say, Belgique fabrique! Others have rightly said, don't rush, take your time to heal properly, the bike can gather dust till you're ready to work on it and you also know that you've no shortage of virtual friends (weirdos) on here willing to help with whatever you need, as soon as you can start to list your requirements... Sending you best wishes, hoping you're feeling better and that your recovery is painless and complete. Bonnet de douche, as they say, bonnet de douche!

  4. Morning Denzilla
I have only just caught up with this news
Please send my best wishes to your dad and tell him everything is possible
I fractured my T9 it’s bloody painful especially around the ribs
    Oxycodone and gabapentin is fantastic
I don’t ride at this present time so can’t help with that
I can help with sending healing thoughts
Tell him to behave and go as he is told :D

  5. Sorry to hear this, but good to hear your dad is starting to get on the long road to recovery.

All said above re medical advice, etc. I imagine a bike specialist solicitor would be best placed to get anything like what your dad deserves back off the nobhead's insurance, most ambulance chasers wouldn't know dainese from daisy.

Best wishes on a full and minimal pain recovery.

  6. GWS Denzil, I can offer some hope from back injuries, I didn't break anything but got squashed nerves which effectively immobilizes you and seems to take forever to get any better. Although it was probably around 5 months before I could actually get my leg over the bike I managed to ride it after 7 months. It takes time but you will get there - keep positive :upyeah:

  7. It's never an easy moment opening a thread with the title such as this one, hope he makes a full and speedy recovery and glad it wasn't any worse! Get well soon Denzil!

  8. I strongly echo that. Denzilla, do pls ensure that your dad is hooked up with a specialist solicitor; in a case like this it will not cost your dad a penny, as the solicitor's fixed fee will come from the other party. Feel free to PM me for a recommendation. I was punted into orbit by white-van-man a few years ago and the stress from worrying about how to get the wrecked bike out of storage, how to buy it back as a Cat C, whether to use insurers' solicitors (no), what medical aftercare to get etc etc was almost as great as the physical pain. In the event I acted on a recommendation and it was the best thing I could have done, all the way through to a large payout some time later. As has been said above, compensation doesn't truly compensate for pain and nuisance, and no one would prefer it to a big crash, but it sure as hell beats the feeling of being underoffered and outmanoeuvred by insurers and other parties.

  9. Bloody hell Denzil, get well soon mate ...

  10. Any compensation should include all damaged riding kit. helmet, gloves, leathers and boots.

  11. I'd also advise to not settle to soon, sometimes effects can last a long time and also develop later on.

I hope Andy is doing OK today.

  13. Recently (and more increasingly, unfortunately) I work on the principle that every car/van/bus/lorry driver is seemingly out to knock me off my bike, so I ride defensively, and try and put space between me and anything else out on the road.

I do think that driving standards have dropped in the past few years. I also think it’d be a good thing that everyone that takes a car driving test should also have some training on a motorbike and/or scooter so they can appreciate and look out for other road users, more so than they do now.

  14. Absolutely.
Of course compensation can never truly compensate, I was just trying to make the point that there should be enough money available to rebuild Denzil’s beloved 748, once he is able to get spannering again.
As for myself, I am virtually back to normal now and the bike is well on the way to being better than ever, the painters have done a fantastic job. I will take and post some pics.
Many thanks to everyone on this amazing forum for their support, both moral and tangible, particularly @chizel, who has been especially generous with replacement parts.
I’m sure @Denzil the Ducati will receive and is receiving equally generous support.
    GWS Denzil!!!!

  16. Hi all, Denzil(in)a back again!

Thanks again for all your replies. Dad was really chuffed to hear from everyone. Have left him asleep (hopefully!) but do have an update re the 748 as well as him.

Dad is now being encouraged to stand and get a bit more mobile as he has had an X Ray in his brace (no Ducati dad style shenanigans thankfully!) and the surgeon is very pleased with everything. At this point it's just a case of being strong enough to do stairs etc before he's able to come home. The speed at which everything has progressed is a bit mind boggling tbh (for my mum as well as him!) but for all the bad luck this seems to have involved there was clearly a bit of good luck left over.

Now, the 748... I asked good friend of mine to talk to her dad about buying back crashed cars etc as I knew they did it for her gran's car. He got straight back and advised that he should have it picked up from wherever it is ASAP before the insurance company gets hold of it (and we haven't got as far as dealing with that stuff). He also says that he will pick it up in his van and store it for dad for as long as he needs. When we called the compound the guy on the phone said that the bike was actually in pretty good shape - the main thing he had to say was "the swinging arm is a bit bent, but it is very much an entire bike". I've sent my mum home for the docs I need to enable my friend's dad to get it for us on Monday morning (he was properly zoning out but could direct her to the logbook no problems...). As it's Friday it needs to be sorted today but thankfully I can do it from my phone. Once it's with friend's parents they are 10 minutes away from where I live (next city over from Denzil) so I will be able to visit and get some photos etc as dad will be stuck at home. Insurance stuff will be dealt with next week when he is more with it.

All in all pretty encouraging and best of all sounds like the car came off worse! :upyeah:

  17. Get well soon, Denzil.

  18. :(.

Hope he’s well on the mend soon

If slow to heal look at hyperbaric oxygen therapy (especially if you have a local MS centre with a tank as they are very reasonable £ ). Can be very beneficial in getting back up fit rather than sitting about at home :)

  19. That cost may be laid at the 3rd party's feet. If their ins co agree. Hopefully the driver was insured.

  20. Thanks also for the various bits of advice on the legal side of things. At the moment he is a bit nonplussed about getting compo but I think we would all be happy with a conviction for the driver (who was insured btw - probably wouldn't have stayed so willingly if he wasn't...). I'll leave him to follow up on recommendations etc when he is up to it. Whilst he is signed off work I'm sure he will be keen to consider some niggly electrical fault queries on here to keep him occupied...
