  3. 2 strokes can have any number or cylinder configuration you want.

    They can also have valves like a 4 stroke or a diesel, it just depends on what the designer wants to achieve.

    Some of the smaller turbines I worked on used a turbo & supercharged 2 stroke V12 engine to start them. These had a separate lubrication system. Rather than use the crank as a pump to achieve positive pressure to push the air into the cylinders, they used a roots blower which discharged into the engine block in the center of the V which the cylinders sleeves opened into to get induction charge.

    If you want to see a pretty wild 2 stroke engine try to find the RR Crecy by Nahum, Foster Pegg and Birch and published by Rolls Royce heritage absolutely fascinating. Supercharged, direct injection, sleeve valve, stratified charge 26 liter V12 engine..............No wonder they never got it to run properly.
