Dilemma... :os

  1. This all just sounds incredibly wise.
You'll have far more fun over there.

Sell the bike - you'll get another one there that has seen less rain.

There will come a time, I am sure, in the near future, when you say - why the hell didn't I do this before?

  2. My poor carby... I could put the full fairings back on and take the half-fairings to put on the new-un? And the original cans? Screen, clutch, oil-cooler... Post them on ahead lol

Just spent two years getting it into the spec I wanted and now I have to start again? Would give me something to do I suppose! They don't have Winter as such, it got down to 16deg C, I was like that was our Summer temp!

Snow? Whats snow? Ice is something you keep yer beer in. My God, I'm there already...

  3. Well you definitely don't want to let a 1990s bike get in the way of a WHOLE NEW LIFE!

  5. ITS MORE THAN A BIKE!!

Its my Doocat. I always wanted an SS, and now I have one? Now its seems I have to give that up to move onwards? What a price to pay...

  6. Under the same circumstances I'd be off like a shot, in fact I'm tempted to come with you but don't think the Mrs & four kids would be too happy.

If you settle there you could always ship your bike out, shouldn't cost too much and if you've got a job/new life etc then it's more than worth it.

You only get one life, no point in not living it to the full - you know it makes sense... :upyeah:

  7. I know what you mean.
Ship it over you can't leave your baby behind thats just wrong

  8. Indeed... I wish they did ferry's to Oz. :) I must have moved every single bolt on that bike and now its sorted I have to get another?? :frown:

  9. Maybe ship it piecemeal. Would be easier to ship without causing damage, and maybe cheaper on the customs side of things??

best of luck, however it pans out.

  10. Ship the bike, less emotional wrench and you'll have transport as soon as it arrives.. Auto Shippers UK - Australia

I've shipped bikes before and saved a fat slice of costs by crating the bike myself. Harleys always used to ship in crates that otherwise left the dealer with a waste disposal issue. The crates for Harleys are big enough to take any other bike, fitting the bike to be shipped inside was always very easy. It then makes all the handling easier for forklifts and you should also be happy with the protection you have swaddled around your loved one.

Best of luck with your new life in Oz :upyeah:

  11. Ship the bike.... 'spec Ducatis are loads to buy over there.
Watch out for Oz plod, they're fooking Nazis when it comes to speeding, especially in NSW and Victoria.
They'll confiscate your bike, man rape you then send you back to Blighty... Then you'll be sorry...!!!

Personally, I didn't like the place, apart from the climate, us Bits are so easily beguiled into thinking a place is great simply 'cus it's sunny!

But in your boots, I'd be off...:upyeah:

  12. You must be joking - you have no work and are gonna use a cc to pay for it.

Wake up man, send em a card ffs and save your self thousands you cant afford anyway.

  13. I remember when I was asked to go to nz for work I was broke and thought Im best not going I can't afford as im self employed and would have to wait months to get paid.
my best friend who lives like there's no tomorrow changed my mind and i ended up meeting the company salesman out there who told me everything is on his company card. Had a awesome time out there and glad I didn't give up the opportunity.
I wouldnt get into debt doing it but I would do everything possible to make it happen.
Your only here once after all :)

  14. Has he gone? Can we talk about him yet?

  15. Lol calm yourself! In the middle of filling out a HUGE visa form... The Aussies wont let just anyone in, their custom's & immigration control is legendary, best not to bullshit them.

Failed to meet the criteria on the first test, 40 out of 60 - scored good on English speaking, work experience & age, fell down on no previous Oz work history or knowledge etc - filling in the rest of the blah to get a second look.

  16. Best of luck :upyeah:

  17. There's only one problem with Australia, it's full of Aussies ! (and spiders and snakes and bloody flies)

  18. Ah shite.
I forgot about the bugs... my bruv has to knock his boots out if he leaves them outside in case anything nasty has taken residence in there.

  19. Not sure about criteria now .
My ex boyfriend has emigrated .
He had to save ex amount and his degree in electronics swung it in the end.
He travelled round OZ on his bike ( I guess checking out where he wanted to move to) then had to come. Back do the Visa thing save like mad ..
Took him 2-3 years to get in.
Hopefully as you have family there does that help get you in?

I bailed out of emigrating in the early 90s.. My ex husband kindly helped himself to all my gear loaded it into a container and shipped it out !!!
I was left with a black and white TV a video recorder and a freezer only because they wouldn't work !
So my stuff emigrated with out my saying and I stayed here!

    I'd love to leave ..
    I'd leave tomorrow if I could .
    But to scandanavia or Finland.
Sadly broke .. Commitments for another few years and my health.
I need an op yearly and I could not afford to pay for my medical treatment privately .
Breaks my heart as I feel trapped here .

Go for it !!! You have nothing to loose except your accent !

  20. Right...

Phone chat with my Bruv this morning - 9pm there, he was having a beer before heading up to Byron Bay, Gold Coast for all the wedding antics...

FB chat with my Son - petrol is 80p a litre? Hasnt seen a Ducati since he's been there, is relying in public transport as "the drivers are all nutters!"

They drive on the left - which is good, also no annual MOT/Inspection? Keen on their V8's & Skylines etc...

    Found this '93 SS:

    Ducati 900ss 1993 Model. | eBay

£3,800?! (Feels lightheaded & has to go outside)

Were Ducati's of this vintage an official Oz import?

Mmmmm maybe cheaper to ship mine... better the Devil you know etc.

Visa application is finished & sent - Aus$549, minus 10% off for a quick form-fill & despatch, was +/- £388? More to the point if they CAN'T give you a Visa in the end they refund you in full.

Words with the letting agents here yesterday & this morning, after I refused entry to a viewing they had booked...

They are going to talk with the letting agent and see if he will lower the rent due to single-occupancy & the works needed.

The wheels are in motion.
