Don't Try And Wear Two Piece Leathers

Discussion in 'Trackdays & Rider Skills' started by chrisb1299, Jun 29, 2022.

  1. As long as its decent quality with a decent zip all way round, more or less, for the road a 2 piece is fine. Nearly all my accidents have been at relatively low speed. My injuries sustained would not, in my opinion, have been lessened by a 1 pc. I wear a back protector in my 2pc and decent quality kit.

I like the movement in a 1pc but will need a bumbag for phone, keys etc. I also like the high speed stability the 1pc has over my 2pc. I get less drag and buffeting. This surprised me.

There's pro's and cons for both. Its a matter of compromise between protection and convenience. Just don't wear trainers, tshirt and jeans ffs.

Fast track day? 1pc. Noob thrupenny bitter? (me) - either. But Ill wear a 1pc as i'm still slim enough for it not to look like someone has shoved a 10lb turkey into a wetsuit. Honestly, some of you need scaffolding.

  2. Agree on the wind turbulence... Amazing difference a set of slippery leathers can make vs a textile or more traditional cut jacket with pockets, flaps and "accoutrements" :)

  3. How much does leather stretch? I got some new trousers today, and they’re pretty tight in the leg, but the rest is ok, if a little snug.

  4. They will ease a little - it really depends. I know it sounds silly, but wearing them around the house can help. Get them warm and move in them etc...

Only issue with this, is that if they really ARE too small, then might be hard to send back etc. Worth noting that people Like Hideout and I expect BKS amongst others will tailor them for you, but it's unlikely to be cheap

  5. Thats what I was thinking, but I don’t want to stretch them to the point that they won’t take them back. They’re Ducati trousers, ordered from a main dealer, so if they really are the wrong size, I’m sure there won’t be any issues, as long as all the tags are intact.

  6. The Ducati sizing chart is a work of fiction...
From expensive experience go at least one size up!

  7. Ouch!

  8. Leather 'gives' and softens, by that i mean it will eventually mould to your shape and become more comfortable, but it won't stretch as such

  9. It’s a mystery, for sure. I tried a pair of Dainese 50 trousers (32” waist, according to their chart), they fitted well, so ordered the Ducati version, same size, as I could get them much cheaper than the Dainese pair, but the Ducati ones were huge.

I’ve now got a pair of Ducati 48, but they seem about 3 sizes smaller. I’m going to go back to Infinity and try the 50 again, maybe the 48 if they have them, but don’t want to go back and get a 50 if they’ll then stretch after a few rides.

Getting the 48’s on and off was quite entertaining for my wife to watch!
