I think exponential tbh, the bikes will be able to run at max power and max revs for the whole 14 laps, so in effect in party mode the whole time. I think they will up the engine allocation but you might see more engines go pop, as the bikes will be pushed harder. Ref the 1 second a lap thing, the point was more than they are spending hundreds of thousands to go 1 sec faster in production based racing, and with the world on it's arse, or at least in the start of it, it's surely now the time to look at how to make racing across all classes affordable in the current climate, otherwise the first to suffer are the riders, followed by the fans
It could be worse, Dorna could have said no and they'd be 4 less bikes on the grid, 6 next year with Suzuki gone. More fool the other manufacturers for not fielding more bikes, more data, more exposure. Worth noting Ducati have won the constructors a few times, just not a riders championship since 2007.
I think the point is you have two different championships and a majority of the top line manufacturers with a limited racing budget. Sports bikes are now a small part of the market so the racing is just about putting the name out there. thats why you have people like KTM, Red bull and Gas Gas. they dont care about Sports bikes. Its all about the brand. Ferrari dont make money racing or selling cars but they make a fortune selling the brand. Hats ,flags, t-shirts, watches...thats what its about The manufacturers put their money where they get the most exposure, WSB gives them the exposure at a significantly less cost than MotoGP. If you want to see the race version of your bike on the track if its a Suzuki, BMW, Kawasaki or a competitive Honda or Yamaha you are going to watch WSB/BSB. British riders are schooled in superbikes from their first race at 13-14, thats why they do well in WSB, Italians and Spanish are schooled in MotoGP. the whole thing from the Asia cup to Moto3 is MotoGP orientated. for MotoGP to survive as an international event without the British/Americans/Australians it needs to offer something completely different to WSB too attract the manafactureres, and riders and copying WSB is not the answer in my opinion but lets see... Triumph have it spot on IMHO. They get the coverage with Moto2, they cant lose a race , they dont need sponsors or riders and the vast majority of their sales are adventure type bikes so dont need to compete in the sports bike market.
Some comments from cal here, didn’t know he was paid per race not per season! https://www.crash.net/motogp/news/1018205/1/crutchlow-sprints-i-was-paid-race-unlike-riders-now
