1200 Drinking Problem

  3. just on E10 versus E5:
    1. in Luxembourg and I believe many other European countries (not France) E10 is the norm and sold under the label "95". This contains 10% ethanol.
    2. The higher octane petrol is sold under "98", this contains only 5% ethanol, often called superplus or so.
    3. In France, what is called 95 is still 5% ethanol.
    4. In France, you get a fuel called 95E10 (which as said is the norm in Luxembourg, it is however cheaper in France).

    I always buy 95 since I have the bike (2012). But as explained above, this is mostly 10% ethanol petrol.
    In countries where there is no E10 I obviously use normal E5.
    I never use 98 fuel except when the 95 is sold out at the pump station. (On my 36 year old Panther car and on my 31 year old Moto Guzzi, I use 98)

    I never had any problems nor do I observe a real difference in fuel consumption. If there is, it is out of the measurable range.

    Technically it is true that bioethanol is slightly lighter than fuel: you need 1,5 times the volume of ethanol to get the same energy than with normal fuel. So your 5% more ethanol in fact give you only some 3% equivalent energy. But if I remember well ethanol gives a leaner combustion than fuel (chemical engineers, where are you?) which allows the electronics to slightly bring the richness up and according to some sources can theoretically lead to 2% higher fuel consumption, at least in theory.

    All commercially available petrol engines since 2000 are actually capable of dealing with E10 fuel.

    Hence 25% more consumption is not due to the use of E10 fuel.

  4. Full fat fuel every time. The additional cost is worth it.
     
  5. A few people in the know I have spoken to deem that e10 can be as much as 30% worse for tank mileage.

    That’s from an engine builder, a specialist and a guy I know who works for Shell.

    this also came up in a YouTube video a while back from someone who noticed a pretty sharp decrease in their aston martins tank range. I think they worked out over numerous tanks it was somewhere around the %’s being mentioned in here.

    Bit of a farce in my opinion as creating ethanol isn’t green and it doesn’t last as well either. Most vehicles run worse on it unless it’s a high compression lump that’s been set up to run on it and some experts think ozone aspects of ethanol are worse than unleaded. Usual government BS. But don’t worry, we are doing the right thing (lol)

  7. Drinking is not a problem. If it was, i wouldn't be at the pup that often.
    In fact, I like staying there until 2am because that's when all the good looking girls drop in.

  11. Still trying to diagnose this, can anyone tell me what this relay is? It had a broken wire.
    Also, what is this connector? Both at the base of my fuel tank.

  12. Bumping this, I’d love to know what these are. I have a fuel gauge bypass fitted.
