V4 Dry Clutch Conversion Anyone??

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Mary Hinge, Jan 16, 2019.

  1. The Spider race rear sets, only available in race shift and nowhere for the rear brake switch to mount. They are the best rear sets I've seen with a lever adjustment that doesn't affect the qs shift rod or the rear brake set up. Andy

  2. Also had all the magnesium alloy, single use, clutch case fixings replaced with titanium fixings supplied by Racebolt. Andy

  3. Out on my R today and was experiencing a noticeable lack of engine braking when down shifting, the bike felt more like it was coasting with clutch not disengaging properly. About 20 or so miles later it then would slip above 10k in 5th and 6th if I was giving it the beans (like I always do!). I obviously rolled off when it did this and was in nursing it mode! By the time I got home about 10 miles or so later it was able to slip above 10k ish in 4th if I gave it full throttle etc!
So question is I’m thinking clutch is toast (done 3600 hard miles) but do I need a higher rated spring?
Would bearings in the slipper need cleaning a bit?

  4. Minimum friction plate thickness is 2.7 mm, minimum stack thickness is 50.8 mm. 3600 miles seems way too few miles for it to be fubarred but as with any slipper clutch, could benefit from a general clean. Andy

  5. Have a read of post #33. To my knowledge, there isn't a stiffer main disc spring available. Andy

  6. I’ll measure the stack, thanks confirming min thickness!
I’ve toasted a set of sintered plates in under 2000 miles on my old 998R many a moon ago! The uprated carbon Kevlar plate stack lasted much better but I think I only got about 5k miles out of that? This was a bike with 100 less hp?!

  7. Not sure what the standard slipper spring rating is?
On the configurator it shows 50kg and 70kg rated spring available?

  8. That is the disc spring that resists movement on the ramps and the one in my kit was 60kg. The main disc spring that prevents the plates from slipping under drive is 140kg. The Ducati system I saw before I ordered a spare 50kg slip spring had incorrect information. Andy

  9. Clutch pack measures 34mm, about 0.5mm of material on each plate!

  10. Pardon me but bloody hell ! I have to ask, given that I only use the clutch at standstill (I don’t use launch control) and between 1st and 2nd, how does your clutch get in that state ? Andy

  11. just use the clutch to set off and stop, don't use it for anything else!
Never used LC or to wheely!
The bike does get used properly! :D

  12. So I've just unwrapped a spare clutch pack bought from EVR and it measures 36.45mm. In my defense, this is the snap shot of the relevant page from the workshop manual that I took. 20190607_120101.jpg
You have still worn away nearly 2.5mm so it is still fubarred. Andy

  13. Generally, I find its only women who wear clutches out.

  14. wonder what the 50.8mm is for?

  15. It's what the race team use so my logic is, if it's good enough for them, it's most definitely good enough for me. Andy

  16. No idea. Even taking into consideration that the sintered friction plates might be a fraction smaller than the OE ones, it would only add maybe 1mm. I'm picking the Diavel up on Wednesday so I'll ask. Andy
