  1. IMG_2862.jpg Using a DSLR underwater poses it own problems, for instance forget the AUTO button it aint gonna happen, DSLRs are designed for the light available above water, Then there is the added problem of finding a housing that accommodates your camera and offers you all the functions you may need and ease of use. Im currently using a NIKON D7100 in a Nauticam Housing

  5. In terms of software I wouldn't be without Lightroom - shoot in RAW and the joy is that all the changes are reversible (so when you learn more you can always return to the original image and improve it).

I also use Photoshop Elements for the bits that you can't do so easily in Lightroom.

    Nikon D7000 - various lenses.

    Cheers

  6. Just a mild joke about your two light units either end. That must be some job travelling with that - do you manage to get it into hand luggage , presuming some of your pics aren't in UK waters

  7. yeah its a pain weighs about 9kg ...just have to hope hand luggage is not weighed

  8. Loving your underwater shoots Diver, must take quite some experience to be able to competently operate a DSLR though that housing whilst dealing with all the other stuff you have to when submerged.

Are the strobes specialist underwater ones or regular guns in waterproof housings?

  9. thx, yeah specialist ones built for the job

  10. Diver................................magnificent shots......................more please......................very impressed

  14. Far from it, fascinating photography. Almost surface of the moon stuff for us mere mortals :)

Don't fancy diving inside wrecks like that, I'm not exactly claustrophobic and have only dived to 15m but that was freaky enough thank you.

  15. this pic is a "work in progress" and is not that good but its difficult to succeed! The subject is a Juvenile Sweetlips smaller than a 10pence coin. The subject moves in a very unique fashion and the idea of this pic was to take at slow speed (in this case 1/4 sec) to capture the ambient light left behind in its wake. Its sorts worked but I would like it a lot sharper so open to any advice and suggestions please

  16. Got any post editing software? You could try sharpening it a little and possibly upping the contrast or dynamic range. There is no guarantee it might work it might not. If you send me a link to where a larger version of the image is I'd give it a go, I've got Capture 1, but maybe Photoshop or Lightroom could do even better (I refuse to use Adobe on account of the renting philosophy, I know it works and has advantages but its not for me)

  17. I use Lightroom 5 ( i believe 6 has gone down the rental route now) that pics only gone improved with me getting me arse in gear

  18. shallow depth of field to eradicate a normally sandy background can have some pleasing results

  19. Keep 'em coming Diver :upyeah:

The one of the Sweetlips looks like it's already had some sharpening, or does it have a gritty nature to it's colouration? Regrettably the more you sharpen the more accentuated that will get, will also tend to loose the ethereal quality of the trail unless you use a mask to just apply to the fish itself.

  20. i have a better effort but this forum is odd? it allows me to upload that pic but not another taken in the same format RAW then converted to j-peg all very randomly
