Mine (dvt and 1200 TS) on DTC 1 with PR4s would leave black lines out of corners on hard gas. The only movement was the tyre treads flexing.
That's true and I never wrote that DTC would stop the grab. DTC will stop the slide from getting out of hand and resulting in a more violent grab.
You wrote that he was riding too hard for the road conditions. My point was: How do you know what the road conditions are? There are some hazards on the street that you just can't see such as a bit of sand. That's why you have DTC. Personally, I'm not able to gauge the quality of the roads in a nano-second. I like to have DTC as my back-up. Don't want DTC? Don't care about Ducati recommendations? Dial it down or simply turn it off.
Sand is absolutely road conditions. He also poured the power on at a decent lean. Standard Mulholland Drive action
Test rides round 2 Another 100 miles with DTC on 3 Ridden a variety of roads from Uber fast flowing roads to nadgery single track complete with gravel and crap Road surfaces My conclusions are as follows... 1) it IS much more lively out of corners and over crests 2) having tried to provoke it into trying to kill me on a loosish surface I can safely say it’s not going to spin up and fire me off into the bushes on dry tarmac It will spin up on gravel but it’s quite restrained The idiot lights do flash to let you know you are being a knob !! It’s not just a placebo it is quicker to respond and much sharper I may now try it with it OFF..... it might be messy
Here's a good example for needing some rear ABS. Notice the wheel lock at 1:10 followed by a slide and grab.
Looked as much locked on way in by brakes or engine braking as power slide. Entirely different things. I know: I’ve crashed in both.
Ooof! Enthusiasm overwhelming talent, it would appear - what a sad way to treat a lovely air cooled Monster!
True that. Unfortunately, experience must start somewhere. The fall may have been avoided had he not locked the rear wheel. That bike looks like a pre-ABS 90's vintage M600~900.
And today’s ride..... Another afternoon in the York’s Dales so a good mix of everything again I set the DTC to OFF.. and off I went... the throttle is different again very direct and abrupt almost you also get a lovely warning light on the dash which I found annoying I covered about 30-40 miles like this and tbh it just seemed hard work So back to 3 and a further 70 miles of proper fun I think ( my opinion) the DRC intervenes from very low down and alters throttle response but on the road you do need some DTC ( or I do ) On a track day errr not sure TBH you’d have to experiment So to conclude, I’m happiest on DTC 3 I’ve even changed TOURING. To match as I hated it previously but now it’s a joy as the bike rides properly All in MY opinion of course
I changed DTC from 3 to 1, and found that I can't tell any difference. I don't think it's possible (for me at least) to ride hard enough on the road to make a difference. In fact, the best thing I did was spend some time fiddling withe Skyhook settings to get the bike set to better suit me. Made for a much more enjoyable ride. Best bet - for me - is DWC off and DTC on 3. And a de-cat to remove the mid-range dip around 5-6k...
I didn’t find that it was about riding hard per se more about what happens when you open the throttle I’ve not been trying to spin it up ... Oooh Look at MEEEE I are MotoGP rider I’ve not seen any DTC activation lights just an altering of how the bike appears to respond to opening the throttle I think the DTC softens the response the more you have dialled in and this is before any spinning up moments I’ll be the 1 st to admit I could be wrong but I’ve now ridden about 300 miles with it dialled down and it’s noticable ( to me anyway ) if you put it back up
No complaints so far... I’m a self Confessed Pirelli/Metzler fan I’ve always liked them Conversely I dont get on with Michelin tyres ... no idea why??
