Duc 749s Vert Cyl Noise...

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Blakey749s, Jan 4, 2018.

  1. You are probably right about that since the tensioner bearings are neither a press fit nor have a large temperature differential between the inner and outer races. But a C2 bearing has a less than normal clearance
No they don't. The cam pulleys run at half engine speed but the tensioner pulleys are around half the diameter or less of the cam pulleys so will run faster, at engine speed or greater and in the case of a 2V engine much faster than engine speed.

More about bearing clearances here : http://medias.schaeffler.de/medias/en!hp.tg.cat/tg_hr*ST4_102440715

  2. Thanks Chris.
Don't worry, I'm not panicking but I do have a slight knock I've put down to backlash in the gearbox. I probably am due a belt change though, so while I'm at it, I'll check out the pullies.

  3. No harm changing bearings every 3rd service as a 'service item' especially when you can get higher spec belts with the correct fitment SKF bearings cheaper than standard OEM belts :innocent:
At some point a bearing will fail, sometimes with catastrophic results if not caught soon enough.
Note: Ducati used different spec bearings from model year to model year in some instances - some of which appear not ideal when checking the required speed rating.
Higher speed bearings generally have more clearance so are looser in slower speed applications and therefore would wear more I guess.

  4. Where would one go to purchase some of these higher spec belts?

  20. New bearings and belts fitted. Replaced oil, filters, plugs at the same time.

Bike sounds great, belts are sitting much better on the cams now.

Belts seem like good quality too so will be buying CCW from now on.

Just in case anyone else is gonna do this I had to cut an Allen key down to about an 1 1/2 inches and then used a spanner on it to undo the vertical idler as it's Behind the frame. Also it's impossible to torque it properly as you won't get a normal torque wrench in there, so I matched the angle the nut moved for the horizontal cylinder.
Also the carbon drive app was much easier to se than the old guitar tuning software, I used my ps4 headset with my iPad.

Thanks for the help fellas :upyeah:
