  1. 150 smackers for a pair of Termis! You've scored there! :astonished:

This is the std hi-level hanger for the SL: (ignore the black tube as that is Ventura rack)

  2. The exhausts are a good buy at that price, but I think you will have to make some brackets for them.
They look to be low pipes for a 900/851/888 so normally fit to the bottom of the pillion rests but the dims and angle of the 400/600/750 headers are subtly different and exhausts are not a direct fit from the smaller engine to the bigger engine/851/888.

  3. If you want to keep the pillion-peg mount intact with the Termi cans, perhaps consider tweaking the X-header outlet pipes (or modifying another to keep your standard one) to get everything to line up.

  5. Well done for getting the Foams made.

Be aware though, the amount of grief I've had even from people on here regarding the Decals was surprising.
No problem with your transaction I'm keen to point out.
I hope you get treated better, and don't be tempted to send anything abroad on a non fully tracked service.
Our cousins down under(2 of them) do like to claim something hasn't arrived, even when they signed for it and posted on a local forum how good it was.

  6. Darrell,
I see you got your foam.
I provided you the .dxf file of the foam profile in the spirt of helping you with your renovation, not so you can make a quick buck on ebay. Your probably going to tell me there was a minimum order, fair enough I thought that would be the case, but no thanks, no recognition and no offer of a free part for my effort does not sit very well.

    Cheers Gaz

  7. Hi Gaz,

Happy to provide a little context and explanation.

Thanks for the .dxf file, it no-doubt saved me a lot of time not having to create the file myself. Furthermore, you did a very good job as the 'fit' is pretty-much perfect.

I contacted many foam companies asking for quotes, most ignored me, some said no, finally i found one who would take on the job. I guess companies prefer larger production runs...

I talked to the supplier who told me one-offs were expensive, and that it would make sense to order more if i had a need... So I ordered 5, they cost £180. £36 each.

I dont know what they are worth to be honest, but i though it would be nice to offer them back to 'the forum', and £30 posted seemed like a price that i would expect to pay, so i went with that... £35 on ebay because i will lose more in fees, etc...

So probably when accounting for postage, i would have spent £180, used one myself, and recouped £100 - so my foam would have cost me £80. Finally, the foam company did send extra (i guess they have a minimum production run, and included the surplus foam's rather than binning them) - so there is a chance i will break even, however it looks unlikely.

Not exactly "making a quick buck", and maybe i should have offered you one first... but i assumed that having created the file some time ago, you would already have everything you need - although looking back at the DM you do state that you never printed these yourself, although others have...

You did not make this file for me specifically, and you seemed happy to help a new forum member by sharing the file, you did not ask me to print a part for you either. I have incurred all of the costs and am trying to recoup some of those back in a manner that i thought was 'in the spirit of the forum', apologies if thats offended you, and if you want a free foam then DM me your address and i will post one to you.

A message via DM would have probably been nicer, i'm not usually one to air my laundry on a public forum...

  8. Hey Team, politics aside I received my foam today. Happy Christmas to me.
Having read Darrel's post I'm even more grateful. Thank you @Darrell
And thank you @gaz92 for the pre-production work.
Spurred on by the good fortune of finding this foam, I've ordered one of Nasher's dash light covers/vinyls/thingy. I'll be updating my restoration thread soon with shiny new stuff.

  9. Darrell,
On reflection I think I was a bit harsh. It was a bit of a bad morning (not your fault). Having sent files out before and had no feed back, seeing your post and ebay listing with again no feedback niggled me a bit. I think that was the only reason I hit the send button and I probably should have thought about it a bit longer.
"The quick buck" comment was a cheap shot and uncalled for, so I apologise. Also, I the pricing was reasonable and I am glad that members are benefitting.
A bit of a knee jerk/uncalled for/hissy fit on my part, so apologies again. Good luck with the rest of the renovation.

    Cheers Gaz

  10. Think nothing of it, were all human and i'm guilty of sending off a fair few sharp emails over the years too... No worries.

I could have handled it all better too.

If we have squashed a 'Forum Beef' then we've done well, next lets go for peace in the middle east next, or harmony between the Korea's! lol

Genuinely though, send me your address and let me post one of the foams to you... that way if we ever meet-up on our bikes, we can admire the foams together on both bikes, over a beer, congratulating your design file and my management of production :)

  11. Darrell,
Thanks for reply much appreciated, "forum beef" averted, but the Middle East may rumble on for a while.

  12. Little update,

I took the carbs off again and fixed the sticking throttle, it was a hose clamp catching on the rotating throttle where the cables connect. So all reassembled, and fitting nicer than before, so very-much worthwhile.

Ive fitted new belts, just need to learn how to tighten-up the tensioners the correct amount:-

    p.jpg

Ive also routed the braided clutch hose and connected it to the engine, but im not sure what to do with the clutch (and brake) master-cylinders and levers... see below:-

    o.jpg

Any advice or experience in either restoring the paint on these, or replacement parts? Ive not taken the lid off the clutch reservoir yet - but the brake reservoir threads both look terrible, the bolts seem to have torn the threads out due to rust/corrosion/thread-lock... I will run a tap through them but i might be looking for replacement parts :-(

I started replacing the front wheel bearings but i dont have a bearing puller (and i cant tap them through with a long screwdriver)... so that job is paused while i borrow/buy a puller...

Anyhow, its all coming along slowly... Ive ordered a battery, and will get plugs and filters ordered next... looking forwards to trying to start it in the new year!

    r.jpg s.jpg

Note the new floor pattern... the vinegar ate through a previous repair to the tank and leaked everywhere, eating into the concrete floor : unamused: So now i have 2 pin-holes that need repairing in the tank... might try silver-soldering them if thats a thing... will google... :confounded:

  13. Hello!

I would definitely wire brush, prime and repaint the master cylinder cover, they really do come back nicely. The lever, however, I would try to find a similar one in better shape. This one looks like it spent some time at the bottom of the channel…

Redarding tensioning your belts, there different methods to do it, and hundreds of tutorials and discussions about this on the web, including on this forum. You will certainly find them via google.
