when and how many rockers has it had replaced…….or need replacing…..you say that the 748r and horror stories….996 just the same… Now the 998 testa engine all your prayers answered..
Cant answer that but ive had 3 x 748 and never had a single rocker issue! Your either lucky or not i suppose. Next service wil tell unless its in the service records
I Ive just read that the sps versions have a higher state of tune and are less reliable. Im not dissing them in any way just looking for the most reliable purchase i can get.
As you have had 748's before you will know that as long as you ride em REGULARLY and use good oil like Motul 300V should be fine rocker wise. If not there are much cheaper alternatives like newman cams for resurfacing rockers and I think others like Cornerspeed and JHP might also off this service. My 916sps (996) has done almost 33,000 miles now and only ever had to replace one rocker. £6000 seems quite high for a 996 unless its a SP or SPS.However with all those extras you got a good deal imho.A standard one gets what £4-5000.If you put it back to standard and sold the wheels ,carbon seat airbox airtubes slipper clutch etc etc then that bike would owe you way under standard money. Personaly I would rather pay a bit more for one like yours with much better spec than standard.
Anyone know anything about these wheels? Are they ultra lite or anything special. Havent seen them close up to see what they are lol.
They look like the old style PVM 5 spoke wheels in either alloy or mag.Nice alternative to marchesini wheels. If alloy cast they probably cost £1200 plus new.Forged add a few hundred more and magnesium add another grand.
Dont require them yet, no wear on inspection when belts fittedlast week. Also full inspection 1000 miles ago confirmed this on major service. Fingers crossed
Is it openers or closers that sometimes wear.Best to check before anyone goes stocking up on spares. Don't see the big deal to be honest.Just send em to Newman cams as already mentioned if anyone experiences problems for cheaper solution.Job done IF you ever need to.My bike has proved all the internet bull about desmoquattro motors completely wrong.
Well the oil feed in my desmoquattro motor and many others must be fine then as ive yet to have to replace all these dreaded rockers. Think someone did a interesting survey on ducatisti on rocker flaking/ wear .Not sure if this is just more internet bull but someone mentioned ducati might have outsourced rocker plating during certain yrs. Id be more worried about the alternator nut working loose hense I have this checked every service.
Rocker wear is an issue recognised officially by Ducati though, so regardless of individual experience, it did affect a significant number of owners. The chroming contractor was at fault and the issue only seriously affected specific model years.
Not 100% what causes this. Is it poor oil feed Plating being outsourced Owners revving the tits off em when cold Shit oil and service by previous owners All I can say is I use motul 300v on my 98 model and change it say 3000 mls.Plus as you say have it serviced right and have replaced one flaking rocker in 33,000 mls.Another friend had a 996sps and had to replace a few.Maybe down to previous owner as he looked after it well or as above a bad batch. Just read tomrowley post and if this is now officialy recognised by ducati does this mean there gonna replace any flaking rockers as a good will jesture.
I doubt it since it was mentioned in a bulletin in 2001. Sigma Performance - Rockers - Who needs 'em?
cus my special needs son came to italia day Bristol with me, of course I still have the single seat unit
