ducati 998 no spark

  1. concise as usual Denzil. :upyeah:

I can check stuff like that but can only do it as I'm looking ,I cant think of it to write it up.

  2. checked under the seat and there are no fuses

  3. your correct in what your saying about no fuses under the seat of the 998,just got 1 more fuse to check and that is thr regulator rectifier fuse but pissing of rain here so wait until it stops,,,would that fuse cause it not to spark ?.all my lights are working ,indicators ,head lamp, brake lights,,instrument lights etc so i will keep my fingers crossed that the last one is a blown fuse

  4. Don't forget to check that you haven't missed a + or neg. small wire off the battery connections.

  5. also the fuel pump comes on when you turn on the ignition, would the coil pack be knackered ?

  6. will also check that,

  7. checked the fuse for the regulator and seems to be fine,40amp and all other fuses seem okay as lights etc working as they should, been told from someone it couold be the coil packs ? would crossing the jump leads cause them to go ?,if no fuses are blown would the regulator and ecu be okay ?

  8. What's your battery voltage? Can you trace this through the fuses, the fuel pump priming is a good start. And it still turns over? What about the alternator wiring/connectors? Have you checked thosed and cleaned the connectors? Daft as it may sound what about the kill switch or side stand switch have you check those also?

  9. Cheeck you have a spark, do this on your front cyl, which I'm assuming you already have out (it's easiest to get to).
If you have no spark then also check your vert cyl.
If you have a spark and it still wont fire then I woulld say you have fried your ECU . Not definate but probable , I have also inadvertantly crossed leads by fitting a lightweight battery which had no red post just a silly little positive mark in the plastic (didnt see it,just the once) and fried my ECU.
Sorry but I'm guessing you could have done the same.
I'd take out the ECU and take it to your nearest Ducati dealer or a specialist independant and ask them to try it .

  10. got a guy coming out on monday £15 an hour so hopefully all will be well, this bike is also fitted with a power commander ,what is the purpose of that ?

  11. Make a poor job of improving the fuelling whilst lightening your wallet.

  12. No disrespect pal, but I think this was probably the best way to go, the trouble shooting Q&A was like an amnesiac walking backwards through a maze with a blindfold on:eek:
    Good luck:upyeah:

  13. do you think i should get the power commander removed ?

  14. Thomas how much have you got to spend . And whatever it is give it to a qualified ducati dealer/indy . You'll save yourself a lot of grief and probably money.
Once the bike is sorted you can start to do the things most people do when new to Ducati. Fit an open clutch cover.
