Ducati 999s price

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by psalliss, Jun 11, 2013.

  1. totally agree, looks wise i think the 999 mono is way nicer looking than the newer 1098/1198, they seem to have a more jap style to them, my opinion of coarse lol, i also agree about your pictures been not the best, get some nice clear bright ones taken from a lower angle, a rear paddock stand in place gives them a real nice look, best of luck with the sale mate

  2. Don't disagree, they are more appreciated the same as old brick-top 851 looks are

  3. Was about to say the same. Bought and sold 8 Ducati's over the last 12 years. Always bought private, and sold through a friendly dealer. Normally manage to break even, or, in some cases make money.

Buyers will always pay higher prices for a good bike through a dealer. The higher sale price will more than cover the £250 to £300 you give the dealer for selling the bike.

Phone a few dealers and see if anyone can help you.

  4. Hmm just been to test ride new multistrada s touring and been offered a reasonable deal I think. Offered me 4500 for my 999s but I can keep my open clutch and plates to sell so shoukd get an extra 100 back for that on 75 per month PCp deal or trade my 1150 gs in as well for 2500 and 67 per month PCp. What do you guys think. Really struggling to sell the 999s private. Last auction finished at 3600 and current one up at that now to finish Sunday.

  5. I think £4500 is a great price for a trade-in.

  6. Got to agree £4500 seems a decent offer especially from a dealer! Psallis Think I'd just go with it, for ease if nowt else? Really interesting thread and insight into selling a bike you've started. It's likely I'll be parting with my 06 R', early next year, and was really impressed by the tips and tricks offered up by some members on how to generate interest with pictures etc, was particularly interested in the idea of perhaps selling through a dealer to avoid the hassle of private sale!
Anybody had any experience of this I take it a fee or commission of some sort is involved for forecourt space?

  7. Only you'd know if that's what you want? Obviously the dealer makes a good margin on the new bike too. Surely you'd get more than 2.5k for the GS? Have you updated the advert pics etc on your listings on ebay? What about not listing them for 2-4 weeks then putting them up as a no reserve sale, you'd generate a lot more interest that way. Do you want a new bike or prefer to buy used?

  8. I'd be surprised if you got £4.5k selling privately TBH.

At the start of the Spring i started looking for 848s and 1098s to possibly buy. In the end i went with a new Multi.

I've just looked at 1098/848's on Autotrader and many of the same bikes are still up for sale some 3 months later and this should be peak selling time for bikes.

  9. Looks a good deal.

  10. Thanks all. The price is pretty good apart from 2.5k for gs so think I will try and sell that private then just pay straight off finance and reduce pavements. I really thought the 999s would sell really easy and for around 5.5k, I'm really surprised that I've not had as much interest as I thought. Surely if a Ducati dealer is offering 4.5k then it must be worth low 5k private. But the quick easy option may be better.

the 999s is on ebay at present and finished Sunday so may wait till it finishes and see if it gets above 4500

  11. Remember (as another thread discusses) dealer has to PDI it, warranty it, advertise it, potentailly replace anything which comes up, then add overhead etc and even if he gets a grand clear its still not huge net profit. Let them take the risk :)

  12. Not me but know quite a few who have. Plus a nice bike will bring other punters in, so the better the bike the morelikely a dealer is to part with space. Sure there will be a cost to sell, I'd guess £500-1000?? But you'll get more cnfifence in your bike and dealer may be able t make money on finance, which cold knock down any fee uou are due to pay. Theres always an angle if you look hard enough :)

  13. Dealers will also do a private sale on a commission basis.

  14. They're offering over the odds as they're making over the odds on the bike you're buying.

  15. Quite possibly but I got the distinct impression that even if I was paying thn deposit cash ther would be no movement in price anyway. Tempted to try and blah a touring seat for free as my legs are a little too short

  16. D'yer know what, think I may go test ride a multi and a panigale this weekend...time for something new

  17. Ha the panigale are gorgeous but I'm better suited to a multi really. Love the looks and performance of sports bike but my wrists and back just don't get on with them anymore

  18. Don't forget that bike dealer who was selling peoples bikes on commission, pocketing the cash, then going bankrupt. He ended up topping himself.

  19. The dealer will want the GS from you, so they can use it as a loan bike, for when all the Multi's are in for warranty work.
