Ducati aftercare - shocking

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by GarySN, Mar 11, 2014.

  1. Tbh wouldn't bother (bolts etc) as likely they will only do it again! So would wait til trade in time and sort it then.

  2. The biggest issue with these sort of problems is that there is no way of telling how the bike has been cared for whilst being used through winter.

If its been used and left either outside or chucked in the garage without being cleaned then this sort of corrosion will happen regardless of the quality of the paints/parts.

  3. All of which my previous bikes were fine with.

Maybe its just indicative of all modern bikes now? One of the things I notice when working on my 2013 was that none of the fairing lug nuts are even zinc coated, rotors and fasteners are rusting, a first on any bike I've owned from new. Has definitely reset my expectation of the Brand. Bikes are fast becoming an appliance as they are incapable of becoming primary modes of transport.
I like to spend more time riding then cleaning but that balance has started to shift lately, to the extent its unreasonable. Nice bike but definitely not a keeper.

  4. I think manufacturers would say bikes are 'lifestyle' items these days. Not a phrase i like but there you go.

I think if you want a bike as a primary mode of transport, the manufacturers would assume you are going to buy a CB500 or something similar.

In the scheme of things bikes are not expensive items so we feel able to use them all the time but how many people would commute through winter in a Ferrari etc?

  5. This comparison often comes up, and its utter shite imho. The only thing Ducati has in common with Ferrari is its Italian and red is the best colour ;)

It no longer costs twice the competition, it no longer is so temperamental it needs few miles and lots of care and its no longer seen as a 'you must be mad, but I want one' status symbol. Its just another brand of bikes, one that sells only bikes, and in that it should get it right!

Although think about Honda. They have to build generators that work in all conditions, 24/7 and run for evere. So bikes are easy after that...

  6. Yes ducati cant get away with hiked prices anymore like they used too.
And no longer as temperamental as savvy punters wont tolerate that shite anymore

  7. Salty atmospheres and bikes don't mix. I've had loads and never had a corrosion problem - despite an unenthusiastic cleaning regime - but I live in London so I've had plenty nicked!

I'd rather ride 'em than clean 'em these days as I don't get caught out in the rain much so they don't get very dirty.

Gone are the days of cleaning my Jota for five hours on a Sunday for a twenty-minute blast to Box Hill and back!

  8. Take it up to Ducati UK at Silverstone and chain yourself naked to the entrance door. Gaffer tape a note to your knob saying "after service not bollox"

  9. The paint on my radiator ends is starting to bubble. Obviously corrosion has started to creep in underneath the paint.
When I was down at the local dealers the other day I had a close look at all the other Multi's in there, of varying ages , but even the oldest ones showed no sign of bubbling to the rad.
I pointed it out to the service manager and he's taken a picture to show his boss. I'll speak to them in a week or so to see if it's something that can be fixed under warranty.
My Mutley is just coming up to 2 years old and well looked after. Anyone else have a similar problem?

  10. Gaffer tape? boasting again!
This after service seems to be shite all round, 4mths old my multi, 2000 miles got issues with exhaust valve keeps sticking, the nipple on end of cable has rusted solid to that circular pulley thing. I'd already been down once to sort the problem they freed it somewhat temporary, now I got to go back again, they tell me it would be easier to replace the exhaust but would need to take a full photo shoot to send off to Ducati before they could order one. What's the problem with getting one in before hand? oh no can't do that! so I'd have to go back again? fuck that ! I said I'll take the fucking pictures, you send them off to his lordship and make sure something gets done. They even suggested taking an exhaust off an earlier bike ! hello??? New bike?....warranty?...just spent over 15 grand? hello? you still there? ....hello? fuckers

  11. (somewhat tongue in cheek) Ducati assume that you're going to ditch the standard exhaust at the first service, so all that crap just has to work for a few hundred miles. Get a proper system on there!

  12. They dont build them like they used to. My 10 year old 999 seems to be fairing better than your new fangled bikes

  13. I spoke to a twat at Reading Ducati today, asking or a panel screw that I found to be missing on my brand new 200 mile bike. First thing he came up with is " we can't just send parts free - you inspected the bike when you bought it". So I said " fuck you. Don't bother. It's a 10p screw.... I'm taking my business elsewhere" I then rang on yer bike, ordered a load of carbon and got a screw for free.

  14. Not if they want to sell volume they can't. And they do want to.

  15. I'm sure your right my old st4 brought new 2004 no probs at all and stills looks good.....well ok its not a 1199 but you know what I mean.

  16. To be fair my 1198 has been faultless. My 916 has only ever cooked RR's. Other than that theyve both been great.

  17. Bloody awful quality control from ducati. Here is what has had to be replaced on my 748.

    wheels
    Frame
    Engine x 2
    Bars
    Front calipers
    Swingarm
    Forks
    Shock
    foot pegs
    Airbox
    Master cylinders
    Clutch
the list goes on and on............................

In fact the only original parts are the tank, rear subframe and rear caliper! (I mean eveyrthing else has been changed bolts nuts spindles bearings etc)

  18. can only agree twats to be found at reading ducati hence will never use again and only 1 mile from home

  19. New bike then Cranker !?
Not sure if it's the dealers themselves or just that they've had orders from Mussolini. You think your buying the best from Ducati till you experience the after service and it just sucks from all directions. Talk about screw mine was delivered with the rear brake reservoir hanging loose, didn't notice it myself for a couple of days, had then been rubbing on the exhaust cover and cause the coating to come away...have they replaced it? have they fuck. Got you by the balls...despite there faults I still love em ! I mean who'd wanna replace with a Jap bike or summut.....

  20. I would if Honda made something that looked half decent as an Adventure bike, had an SP2 V-Twin lump and shaft drive.
