V4 Ducati Connect

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by peterTHErider, Dec 6, 2021.

  1. Having bought my new V4 I thought I would try and see if I could get the Ducati Connect working.

Initially it was encouraging, it paired the phone and headset fairly easily and I managed to get the Ducati Connect app working and could see my music, play a track, skip tracks (couldn't seem to turn the volume up or down on the bike but I guess I can do this on the headset).

First time I rode the bike it told me there was a problem with the phone, I stopped relaunched the app, got it working and started the music but as soon as I rode off the same error message although now I had music playing and no way of stopping it (unless I turned the headset off).

It tells me I need to leave my phone unlocked and on whilst using the App, but this seems incredibly old fashioned, and wasteful and would be drawing power from the phone the whole time (I'm not even sure that is possible with an iPhone 13 to leave it 'unlocked')

The whole Sygic app seems pants, I didn't manage to get this working on the bike and I'm certainly not going to subscribe to it in order to get access, which it seems to be telling me after my free trial runs out.

I was hoping it might be a good option to use for short trips when I didn't want to mount the Sat Nav.

I'll probably have to revert to using the phone to headset and phone to Garmin XT set up I used before. I still had issues with this as sometime the music would turn on and off, stop all together or come out of the Garmin. The usual fix was to turn the headset and Sat Nav off and back on again. It usually worked better if I started the music playing before I started the bike (and Garmin), although even then it would sometimes turn off.

Has anyone had any more success with the App?

  2. I attempted to use the Ducati Connect app on my 1200S and gave up as it was a pain to use for controlling music. Haven't even bothered to try on my V4S, I just connect my phone to the headset for listening to music. The phone is connected to my Garmin XT and displays the track information however I don't listen to directions from the sat nav, I just use the sat nav display. So no help at all, sorry :)

  3. Same set up as I did previously Steve, I was just hoping that Ducati might have finally sorted out a solution

  4. I've only ever needed to leave the screen on and unlocked when using nav. In that case, it works as intended, stupid as it may be. I suspect they expected people to use the usb in the phone pocket to keep the phone charged.
Sygic free works fine for nav, no need to subscribe unless you want the extra features.
Music controls work without the screen on and unlocked, except the volume, which you needed the Ducati branded Cardo for volume control.

This is all from the perspective of an Android user. One would think the iOS integration would work at least as well.

  5. Deleted the App from my iPhone as whenever a call rang in it would crash the Bluetooth connection and stop running Sygic/Music. I had to use Sygic when my Zumo died on a week long trip and found it worked pretty darn well. I also have used it off the bike when traveling and looking for something within walking distance when in Europe. (Didn’t have other maps downloaded on phone and didn’t want to use data. I had downloaded the Sygic maps while on wifi to play with.)

With music playing and Sygic via the bike to my headset I can see calls but it doesn’t crash the connection or lock the phone. At least i can get directions, adjust the volume or skip tracks using Bluetooth. Poophed the App and it’s acceptable, but not for a premium product - the Ducati Connect App is

    Inexcusable.

  6. It’s a very clunky system. As you are finding out. The Sygic nav app in itself is actually pretty good. Does lots of neat things and is a pretty cheap annual sub. But the integration with the bike is woeful. I gave it up. iPhone on an iconic eng mount, quad lock charger. Use what ever app works best for the ride, Waze, My route, Sygic (on the phone) etc. pair the phone to the bike (not your head set Sena or whatever), pair the headset to the bike. Music bit works albeit with the most recent app you’ve used on the phone. Can. Change this if you want but on the phone itself . I’m not into music on the bike personally as I need all my concentration for predicting what other road users might do…All good though and this works for me. You need to delete the Ducati connect app from the phone completely.

  7. Until they get Apple CarPlay, I won’t bother with any of this nonsense. Life is too short.

  8. You can always add one of these Carplay screens you can buy now.

The biggest issue with using sygic is how hot it makes your phone.

  9. I work in the tech sector. Being on the bike is an escape, so connecting the bike to my phone is the last thing on my mind tbh.

  10. But it adds Apple Carpkay which is what you are asking for.
To be fair, I am the same. I only take my phone in case of emergency. The last thing I want is to know is someone is ringing or texting me.

  11. How do you add a CarPlay screen, I’ve not seen that?

  12. Its a separate unit like adding a Garmin to the bike. 711RRNDi8BL.jpg

  13. Looks nice and sleek! And completely pointless, as you may as well just mount your phone to the bike.

  14. Looks like an old TomTom. Have seen reviews on this device, not overly impressed TBH. Waiting for a better bike orientated screen that can do Android Auto/CarPlay..

Have gone over to using MyRouteApp Navigation Next on my Samsung S22. This is now compatible with both Android Auto and CarPlay. Ideally having a separate, bigger, screen is better than mounting the phone on the bars as I do at the moment.

  15. And why not a rugged tablet? At today's prices, a 7/8-inch rugged tablet is not worth more than a phone of this type. I currently have a 6.8-inch rugged phone, and I am thinking about putting an 8-inch tablet on it when I retire it. I've seen several in a very good thread in the BMW Spain forum, I'll give you a link in case you want to browse:

  16. That's not a bad idea but raises the whole issue of powering the device that I've already sorted for my phone, or any futire replacement, with an SP connect case and wireless charging, vibration dampened mount... The whole MRA solution to sat nav is probably deserving of another thread rather than hi-jacking this one...

  17. The whole point of having the phone connected to the dash, is to eliminate having several devices mounted to the bike. You’d have thought in this day and age of safety first, manufacturers would make this sort of thing an absolute priority, with zero glitches.

  18. I’ve persisted with this today and set my iPhone in low power mode, switched locking to ‘never’ and it kind of worked.

Music was playable, track selection and volume all worked from the controls on the dash.

Synergic didn’t work properly, no maps displayed, might have to set it going in the phone with a destination first maybe?

I’ll still use my Garmin for proper routing but feels like it might be working a bit better than I initially thought

  19. The idea is you select Sygic from the bikes screen, once it boots into Ducati Connect. Doesn’t need to be started on your phone.

  20. Yes I tried that, I think the maps hadn’t downloaded properly on the initial installation.
