It seams to me that this dda+ is just for fun, no real purpose behind. I have used a software for my iphone as laptimer with an external gps receiver - this was working perfectly. Speed. Lean angle, with track maps, intersection times, speed, corner speed, braking phase, accelaration phases etc... ok not rpm, no gear, no TPS but anyway... it costs 24 euros - harrys laptimer Pro. I was very happy with that. Check out this app - its really the best if have seen for smart phone. Documentation is there, but just the obvious things like installation, starting the sofware etc... nothing i couldn't figure out without... But if it comes to working with the data, what does the figures mean, how are the calculated channel be calculated etc... nothing written about that. :-(
Hi I dont think that phone gps is less accurate, its about the sampling time an statistical relevance of the data. With a higher sampling rate (iphone samples 1 Hz = each second one reading) gets less data, about the normal distribution of the GPS accuracy you will get better data if you are sampling with 5 HZ or even with 10Hz - which is not necessary in my oppinion. With 5 Hz and the right software you will be very accurate for a gps based lap timing. about 1/100 sec. if you want to get more precise, you have to use a stationary based lap timing (sender, transponder, receiver at the finish line) but there you dont get intersection times etc...
First of all: hello! I read all the topic and I'll try to give you support for your problems. @arnoldpraesent : your DDA has been programmed using the 1199 acquisition table (the configuration where is told what channel read from the bike) without the GPS option, this is the reason why you weren't able to see any GPS data on your acquisition. You should be able to change the Acquisition table of your DDA by using this tool (available only for windows) http://area.riservata.it/SetupDDAFlashUpgrade-4.13a.exe and choosing the option “Features GPS” . Once you flashed the DDA with the right acquisition table, you should be able to see the GPS channels. Hope that it helps. If you (or anyone else) are still having trobubles with DDA and its software, feel free to contact [email protected]
Thank you. That's a valuable comment. I will try it asap, I have to find a vm ware for my Mac. Maybe if the gps data a readable the map will be usable as well. What do you think about the issue that the whole turn is on lap. No separation of individual laps? Any idea?
Is laps visualization just one lap to select or more? You get one lap, zoom time line smaler to scroll lap times...
Hi enclose some screen shots. dda1 - open file, dda2 - select channels, dda3 - available laps, dda4 - 2 laps for a whole turn. what i have seen is, that there are two laps, i think this is because i have set a new finish line with the flash ... so maybe its realy about not getting any gps signal for the data recording... this would also explain why the map cant be unfolded from the side. ... i will let you know whats the outcome - i have also written an email to prosa. maybe they can advice what to do and how to get out most of the dda+ system. Thank you to all of you for your help and comments - I like this forum ... no bad comments.
Hope you get it work. With 1199 i only do once finishline flash highbeam mark when starting that trackday. With info button i get index mark, then zoom in looking laptimes and data closely.
i will let you know, if everything works fine, will be at PannoniaRing in Hungary next weekend. Depending if i get my bike back in time from workshop and the weather is fine. I think the main aspect of the data recording is if you can compare laps (overlaping) to see where are the differences and if you can define a reference lap (most likely the fastest) to compare with. so you can search and track for improvements. at least that was my aim of buying this dda+ kit.
Hi again I think the 'one lap' issue is because the DDA has been programmed without the GPS option as mentioned. The index for the DTC is just the scale I believe, from 0 to 10 (0 being no DTC on, 10 being maximum). DTC has no standard units, like miles or hours etc. so they have just called it Index. At least that's what it looks like on my software. Had a wet start to my run yesterday so had the DTC on quite high and it was cutting in a lot on the 2 x hairpins.
I have the Ducati integrated lap timer with the GPS module in the nose cone. I bought this as an add-on for about £350 & it was supplied & fitted by my local Ducati dealer. It works fine. I set the lap start/finish once, using the head light switch, at the start of a trackday. Every time it goes past that point, irrespective of if the bike has been sat parked up in the garage between sessions, the lap timer records a lap. No issues or problems whatsoever.
Phone GPS might be slightly less accurate - but it works. best thing about race chrono is that it tells you if you are up or down on pace around the lap so you know when you're on a hot lap - the most useful function ever - but not on the DDA+ Feedback on DDA+ after first use at two days on the circuit at Parcmotor: sometimes it caught the end of lap automatically most of the time it didn't. Recorded probably only halp the laps that I wanted to see on the on board lap timer. DDA+ stuck under the rear seat - a pain to get on/off every time - but I guess an extension cable could be used. Verdict - if you just want laptimes/splittimes/current laptime progress - get race chrono and a £30 android phone
Hmm didn't work for me. Had sessions where I'd look down after a couple of warm up laps and notice I was on a 5 minute lap and I'd have to reset the start/finish. Interestingly when I didn't enable DDA+ recording, the GPS still works for the the onboard laptimer , and did seem to pick up the start/end point. Were you enabling DDA+ every session? Without DDA enabled, I presume you can't download the laptimes?
DD+ GPS has to be enabled through the dash menu system every time you restart the vehicle. They may done that as the memory only has 32mb.
Ok. Today I should be on race track but didn't get my duc back from workshop in time. So I can't tell anything new about the dad+ right now. What I have experienced is that the support of prosa is excellent. But this is not Ducati related I guess. Data recording with app is also fine. Did it on my zx6r and worked well. If it comes to pure lap timing maybe dda isn't what you should go for. The apps provide much more functionality. If you want to have a full view of what's going on you need the dda sbk kit. Why I have switched to dda is because it is integrated and for lazy guys like I am it's ok. What I really miss mist is the split time view and if you are on a hot lap or not.
Yep - knowing if you are on a hot lap or not in real time tells you so much about what you're doing it helps learn the fastest lines etc in real time. It also helps you to decide to come in or not if you're on a duff lap! Analysing it in the pit afterwards doesn't do it for me.... prabably as I don't know what I'm doing
