Yep a lot of the Ducati "City" brands have gone. my local guy (Italia Lncoln) tells me that Ducati wanted 100K contribution to re brand the dealership This added to the stock they force you to hold over winter plus other costs, equalled no money for the dealership. " its a loss leader - you are just working for Ducati"
Someone better buy it, I don't want to have to service the bike myself....might save a few quid though.
Its tragic, but there will be many more to follow, especially the franchised dealers with big outlays
Specialist at Knockhill? I'm up there all the time and I don't remember any outlet up there, temporary or otherwise. Ducati Glasgow always have the best stand though when the BSB comes to town. I guess the Harley dealer will follow the Ducati and Triumph dealers as well as AFAIK they are all the same company...
I’ve been into Ducati and Triumph Glasgow a few times, bought my AGV helmet from Ducati, really helpful and friendly Girl (young woman) served me. Hope they get saved. I have heard that Triumph also want money for show rooms and you have to have them their way. I suppose all dealerships are the same.
Sure;y Ducati would set- ina do support finding a buyer, it has to be in their interest. They won’t want a large gap. No idea on volumes of sales etc but a whole country without a dealer at all?! Reckon servicing will be ok for older bikes, you’re bound to see a few specialists spring up. But can they manage the new stuff with all the kit costs and availability from Ducati?!
Why can't they just get this right? It is the customers' job to rape the dealer. The importer/manufacturer is supposed to help the dealers make a profit and do well, so that a Ducati franchise is well-regarded. Very short-term thinking. If there are no Ducati dealers in Scotland then they aren't gonna sell many bike there - or, I have this wrong and you do sell loads of bikes with no dealerships. Maybe they have Scottish customers queuing up and so they thought feck the dealers, we'll sell them direct and people will buy them mail-order!
That’s the future ... go on the Ducati website configurator, build your bike to the spec you want and have it delivered to your door. Most people have probably made the decision they’re going to buy aDucati before they visit the showroom anyway. Trouble is who’s going to provide all the warranty and re-call back up ?
Would people actually consider a bike that has no dealer network or how many return customers will think again ? No test rides or even seeing the bike. Current owners, and there's more than you think in Scotland, will have to ship their bikes into England for servicing as they will void any warranties if a Ducati dealer does not have a record of scheduled maintenance.
I think its likely we will see dealerships becoming more specialist servicing centres than sales centres. Buying a new bike for me is as much about the attitude and reputation of the dealer than just price..its when something breaks that you find out whether your purchase from that dealer was good value or not.
