Question. Why does the ECU ground not go into the ecu but seems to run towards the dash? I have a friend who did some testing and says that he couldn’t find the ECU ground having continuity with the plug.
The ECU is grounded through a ring terminal attached to one of it's fixing screws. The ring terminal has a black wire to ground.
The ECU also operates a number of components by earth triggers. For example the injectors are fired by the ECU by triggering earth. As Derek says, the main earth connection to the ECU is via a fly lead that goes under one of the ECU retaining bolts (it must be earthed there).
Could a bad injector be causing all of this? I mapped the new ecu but the same problem exists. When I ground the ground wires for the injectors outside of the ecu to the frame I get 12 volts to the harness. However during testing this time I had the wire harnesses connected to the injectors. Only one sprayed. I swapped that injector to the other harness and it sprayed as it should, the non spraying injector still doesn't. Could a bad injector somehow be causing a fault or stoppage in the ecu? It doesn't seem like that would cause a failure to ground but maybe?
Got locked out of my other account somehow. I had someone else look at the bike and he determined the fuel pressure regulator was bad. We were finally able to start the bike up by clamping the return line. Where could I get a new regulator? I am able to find them for the metal tank bikes, but mine is the plastic tank. The guy told me I would probably need a whole new fuel pump assembly. Thoughts?
